parents offered to buy me a new sewing machine for my birthday. I have no idea what to look for. Suggestions? (Under $250-300 I think...)

it really is up to you and what features you want.

button holes? Crazy stitches? You just have to scope some out.

My mom likes Husqvarna, Viking and Pfaff over Singer

I had Singers and lurved them a lot. But the new Husky I got is the best ever.

While they're super spendy, I got an older model for just under $300. There are more if you're interested.

Older models are the better ones with metal gears vs. plastic. They're higher quality and last forever.

thanks for the info. I have a Brother machine now. But it's just not strong enough to handle sewing every night.

My mom suggested Kenmore... I found one I like but it doesn't have the removable table piece...

what was the used older model you bought recently? i'd really really love a sewing/embroidery machine but they are SOOO pricey!

The older model is the Husqvarna. I'm seriously in love with it.

I have really been impressed with it. Until it started pitching fits lately...

it tries to literally eject the bobbin & case from the machine. I've tried adjusting tension, cleaning and every other thing i could find.

I should probably look for a pro/industrial machine... lol.

you might want to check Wal-Mart for embroidery machines. I don't think I paid all that much for mine.

it's not the greatest, but it gets the job done (when I actually use it).
