spin wants too much out of Plurk. Relax...
this is the grind, just want to change some colors but yanno
modernevil: it's the principle of it. It's stupid, must be challenged, and I won't sit down and shut up.
Karma in and of itself is a cute little thing that the kids will like, but don't force it for basic functionality
Plurk is one of a million apps, and hell, I'm prolly doin them a favor. It worked for Twitter. Piss off people. 3. Profit!
Oh but wait, scratch that #3 thing. Profit. LULZ.
i'd agree that the leveled-up icons are cute, but CSS? On
Wordpress.com I have to pay for it
Plurk's issue is that their token economy is rooted in this superficial thing. It will encourage the behavior.
HIGHLY amused that you can't embed plurk on your myspace profile btw. That's ironicalicious!
It's also important to do the things we hate, so we can talk authoritively (please don't bring up cocaine like it's the same thing)
to make up her own words.
modernevil: no, the karma thing, not Plurk. Plurks like every other Twitter, make it what you want it to be.
And I know I'm not even close to being the only one thinking the Karma thing is retarded.
Imagine tho, if Plurk charged for things like that, they would be, you know, generating revenue.
That's almost a business model! GASP.
It amazes to consider the thinking process works behind SO many apps in this social space.
modern: maybe because it's labeled as karma. There are some pretty effed up people out there who totally would get karma points, heh.
I also look at achievements and trophies in game systems and karma in systems like Kaneva.
One is gameable and the other is merit-based. It's a nut that can be cracked under false pretenses.
I mean seriously, I can raise my karma by bitching about karma? LOL?
I will say again tho that for the smiley things and add-ons/value adds (even to zap adverts) Karma points might be good
Feedback and rating systems are easily gamed, look at IMDB and the Dark Knight/Godfather fiasco.
