it is ironic that the more "awakened" Edna becomes is the more she seems to "daydream".
I was thinking that too! She seems to drift away from reality as she finds herself, rather than become more secure.
The more she finds herself, the more she loses herself, ultimately resulting in death...which is a complete loss of oneself.
