I agree, I'm sure he's been through a lot obviously, but from the prologue it kind of feels like he's given up.

the mean streets of NYC can do that to a person. I know from experience. However, I didn't move into a basement afterward!

But one thing he is consistent with through the prologue and the story is his realistic portrayal. which I enjoy.
