I am going to a gym class at 12:30 and before that, I need to
3 - hide all my statues, holy cards, crucifixes, etc.
WHAT?!
They don't know I'm Catholic - well, Dad does
Dad is Catholic but he stopped going to church or wearing his crucifix cause of mum
And I asked him yesterday and he said to take it all down before she gets here
Otherwise she will get angry...
Were you raised Jewish? Or no religion at all? Is she observant?
She is secular... she sent me to sunday school with a packet of cheese & bacon balls (this breaks two kosher laws off the top of my head)
but is it really fair of your mom to decide what religion you or your Father are?
I was raised Jewish kind of - like the equivalent of your Christmas and Easter Catholics
Well... not the only thing she doesn't know - she doesn't know I'm engaged yet either.
Surely, she had to know what the rule was if your parents got married as seperate religions
It's a really messy situation with her...
Well, they had a civil wedding
They're also about to get divorced after 30 years of marriage
Mom: I'm Catholic and engaged. Pass the potatoes! Have some more wine!
Mum has an ....interesting.... temperament
Love her dearly but I have to tread carefully around her
My family thinks that the latin mass is weird and nutty, but I do it anyways
Dad and I keep a lot of secrets from her
My Dad was so happy when he found out I was becoming Catholic
I hope I can get him to come to Mass with me sometime
Your a grown woman, it is your home and you have the right to have whatever you wish sitting out. Think of it as a teaching moment
maybe she will learn something and rekindle your fathers Catholicism
The problem is she's a bit mentally unwell
I'm pretty scared of her , actually
99% of the time she's perfectly normal but because of the 1% I'm always walking on eggshells
And she won't acknowledge the fact either, so she won't take her meds
I moved out of home so I could convert
OK, I have a bipolar mother, so totally understand. She is doing well now, though.
The eggshells...oy, that is SO hard to deal with!
Yup, mum's bipolar (like me) and BPD
It's rough sometimes, but when she's on her meds it's a beautiful thing
ah, BPD...very familiar with that as well.
...when I tell her I'm getting married, and then she finds out it's at Maternal Heart...
- mum
So you understand what I'm dealing with here.... *sigh*
Yeah.
for you
yep!
Because of what you said earlier about having to deal with your mum being ill too.
I know how hard it is, so yeah...
She's a lot better. Lots of health problems, but bipolar is under control. The sad thing, though, is
how years of medications have affected her, mentally and physically. She's declining fast
But if it weren't for the meds...I shudder to think what it would be like
From long horrible experience, the meds they use to treat it are awful.
I will say a prayer for your mum
Thank you. She is a wonderful person, am sure she won't be with us much longer
