I disagree. I think there's tons of well written vampire fiction. Anne Rice just happens to be the most popular one.

I will watch it based on three facts 1) HBO, 2) Alan Ball, 3) Six Feet Under.

Forever Knight was actually pretty good, in book for I'm really partial to Charlie Huston's Joe Pitt series of books.

Kim Harrison also writes some pretty good vampire lit.
