shows an IP. how do I completely clear out an IP from the system. it is a Vista machine.

yes. if i put an ip in, then do an ipconfig, it shows 2 and won't connect to the network.

unplug from network, run ipconfig, restart. It will give you either 0.0.0.0 or a 169.x.x.x. Or it should.

nope. just to clear out the ip listed in ipconfig so I can put in the correct ip

I think if you do ipconfig /release it will give up the old ip.
