Namely one of your party members gets a 100% accurate instant death effect. If the enemy isn’t immune to ID, they die to this.
As far as I can tell only three things render enemies immune to this.
1. Narrative weight: if you are important enough to get your own name or story beat you also don’t go out like a chump.
2. Is it cool? A lot of boss fights for example are a nameless and individually unimportant group of dudes. There’s usually one guy who is bigger or has a different fighting style or something to make him the cool one. He is immune. His buddies are fair game.
3. Can I manhandle this? The IK move is the ex cop in the group tackling the target to the ground and cuffing them. Some enemies are too big or tall or lack essential arrestable anatomy. They are immune.
I don’t know I just think it’s mechanically fascinating to being so committed to the idea of status effects being good and useful that you give the player a Delete Guy button that works on like 95% of enemies.
having not played infinite wealth yet and remembering I didn't ask the last time this came up: this is Adachi, yeah?
Does he still basically fulfill the role of the party 'tank' for lack of a better term?
Where he just soaks an absolutely absurd amount of damage?
Because I do think it's fun and even interesting to give the guy who is nominally not the biggest bruiser on the team a, to put it in Exalted terms we both understand
"Remove Trivial Enemy" button
Yeah, and with Enforcer no longer a job he is way more important for his ability to just soak up abuse. He does seem slower now though.
Which to compensate he hits a lot harder now and given how important grapples are in the combat system he is damn near MVP for Team Ichiban.
That doesn't surprise me that they removed Enforcer because it was just kind of pound-for-pound Adachi's best job.
It is interesting because it means Kiryu has to be the tank for his own team and to be honest he’s not the best at it? Pound for pound highest HP total of the cast but it turns out a cancer patient doesn’t have great defenses?
And there’s no tank class to slot into aside from kind of the DLC one? And it’s not amazing at it like Enforcer was.
I mean that and historically that has kind of been Kiryu's style of tanking, if you want to look at the series in overview.
Kiryu is not a defensive fighter, he mostly relies on his own sense of bulk and murdering the other guy before the beatings catch up to him.
Local man ignores gunshot wounds by consuming 3500% of your daily vitamin b value via energy drinks.
Kiryu's best move in like every game it shows up is Tiger Drop which is the one time he actually fights defensively and also it is almost always a huge pain in the ass to acquire in every game it's in.
This is because the man has never met a problem he could not face-tank.
He gets it again in this one but it’s a reward for doing a bunch of completion stuff. I like that in the RPGs the Komaki stuff is decent damage but mostly is notable for being 100% guaranteed Enrage if you hit the button prompts for it because this dude just did fancy martial arts to you in a street fight.
Local thug pissed as shit you pulled some Akido shit out of your ass.
Exactly! Then again I’d be mad if some dude grabbed me by the arm, whipped me around in a circle to hit all my friends, and basically threw me into wall so I’d stumble back into the hardest solar plexus punch he could muster.
