My boyfriend translates for pay but that's all I got
I've heard of paid translation work, but even then, 280 pages (note I'm counting the bonus chapter)... man, I probably would never be able to afford it...
Going to bring here something I had said to Chicklet that fits my current predicament.
oooh yeah. I mean he has done some for fun but he's too busy to do that kind of thing without the excuse of it getting money. It's usually per word so it can be really varied but even with cents per word that does add up
...this also has been an issue with me finding a reasonably priced US copy of Culdcept Saga. Suddenly those on eBay have raised to the hundreds and it's been frustrating for me. Really has been hurting a bit to be a Culdcept fan lately
:< Well send me a bit about the manga I can try to get him into it and he might out of fury translate it himself and toss it on patreon for dl
which would be affordable lol
Keep in mind the common price of it mere months ago was $45. That's why it's frustrating.
oh that's some cheaty nonsense
Oh, the Japanese manga is on Culdcept Central
But the English manga has yet to be scanned anywhere
It's weirder because volume 6 was never translated into English at all
And the bonus chapter was also ebook exclusive. I got the pages from that myself and it's yet to be posted on Culdcept Central despite me sending those pages on
I know this pain, I've got it with Category: Freaks!
Also I don't have a scanner so I can't upload the English manga
Wait enough years and it'll go back down? ToT
Taking pics with my phone is not good quality
My fingers from trying to keep it as open as possible would sometimes be in the way with my best efforts, and even then words closer to the middle of the book can sometimes be missed with this method
At least for Saga I've been having friends help keep an eye out for it
The sixth volume of the manga though was never released in English and probably will never be released in English, let alone that bonus chapter
It genuinely feels like a roadblock for lore, and I want to help out Chicklet but it's hard to when I have no idea where to go to help and that they don't want me to sum up what I could understand to them
Also don't worry too much about the fandub thing I mentioned: a couple of friends have actually shown interest in maybe fandubbing Revolt, which would be amazing
Yeah for good scans you need to buy a copy you are willing to unbind
I was working for a bit on screen capping every page from Culdcept Central of the first 5 volumes, going into PS and replacing the text with the english text from the official manga... I was gonna share it with the group. But um... I forgot how uneven the official translations are and... well.... I got distracted with other projects >.<
I think PSing the translations would be solid; it would allow things like Baltias to be correctly named
Flame Lord was also incorrectly named in the official translation
(Baltias had issues with not having the correct translation up until Saga and the DS manual)
Grubel/Guldberg/whatever is inconsistent similar to Baltias, but it's a bit harder to say if Guldberg is indeed what it is supposed to be since DS never had an official translation to check for accuracy. Baltias at least was properly canonized in an English localization with Saga prior
(Also can I just say I hate "Guldberg", it looks so weird)
But yeah, RPing Najaran is a whole lot of cherry picking which inconstancies in the translation or canon I wanna go with, lol
It's about as bad as Rayearth that way, lol
The DS translation used it as well, and it fits better
Likewise, I use Baltias for the dark god in question.
That one I tend to go by volume 1 of the manga, just because it is usually easiest to reach to double check, lol
Baltias was outright used in Saga and Saga is the latest official material to have him. It even stuck for DS's manual.
(DS's remake was made after Saga)
I love how you think I can find my manual, lol
Written in English in the official guide for 3DS
This is also where "Guldberg" comes from, but from what I understand Omiyasoft isn't the best at translating their own stuff, while Saga had tons of help for why Baltias is cemented
At least no matter what, Najaran is always Najaran, Zeneth is always Zeneth, and Goligan is always Goligan
Also I don't think even the manga is consistent with Baltias's name, hahaha
It is on the same page that has Grubel's name wrong, lol
I don;'t think it is either, like I said, I just stick with volume 1
I suspect if you join a game, a lot of this will become like when I play with other people from Miraculous. I tend to use the French names, and I wind up in threads with people who use the English so we both use what we prefer and accept that we mean the same person
ChickletLARP: Once again though, Saga uses Baltias and Saga is way more reputable with the translation
And Saga came first before this manual
So it's very safe to assume Baltias is THE name we should go with
It is also very safe to presume I will never remember that spelling
S'why I go off of what I have on hand as a reference. Cause I can't spell and names are the hardest for me
Fair. But yeah, I'd say if we simply replace the text in the manga scans with the English ones, use Baltias since it seems to be finally the translation Omiyasoft is sticking with
I will try to remember.... to ask you if I get to that point ::nods::
Grubel meanwhile we can keep because 1) Guldberg is hideous and 2) unlike Baltias who had Saga to back up her name, the most she has for an official English localization IS the manga
Grubel meanwhile feels more fitting because it reminds me of "Grub", "rubble", and "Belle"
I think Grubel would point out they are both wrong.
"It is Most fair mistress Grubel who is prettier than roses!" or some such
Which fits with her elemental choice and Belle means "beauty"
That's why I like Grubel so much more than whatever Guldberg is
The rest of the DS manual translations are pretty much consistent with the DS fan translations and the manga (Though Koutetsu is written as Kou-Tetsu for some reason, but that just looks better as one word)
Also, Flame Lord is the official name of the card in PS2. I think it's been inconsistently named as well but it absolutely should be Flame Lord
And once again I'm positive DS's fan translation is consistent with this (it helps that every card has their name spoken in English even in the OG Japanese versions)
Good news, it's planned to be added to Central
That being said, Andy hasn't scanned them yet
He doesn't even have them outright, but I sent him a few eBay listings for the English manga that are all cheap.
My friend Wargamer is also looking into getting them scanned. He just bought a set.
