What got you interested in RPing Bette?

angriestbird: A lot of it is because she's just plain my favourite DC Comics character! Though I've been RPing for years now, off and on, I'd never really RPed much with her. usually sticking to better-known characters like Supergirl, with whom it'd be easier to find castmates and people who'd want to tag.

But I also felt like I was doing a disservice to my fave. If she was barely appearing in comics, surely I could satisfy my need by writing her in RP?

So for the last many years, off and on, I'd been putting her in memes and apping her to the occasional game, but those games would either die out or RL would hit me with a whammy and I had to drop.

But I've never given her up. Like she once said:

Awww. Yeah, speaking as someone who’s played various lesser known characters, it’s still possible to find fun in RPing them! And sometimes it even leads to other players getting interested in your canon

Actually, I had never heard of Bette until I played with you back in Bakerstreet and then I proceeded to look up her history

I have been very lucky in having had a handful of supremely cool people tag her, which has been nice!

Yeah, my introduction to her was in the Encyclopedia of Superheroes, which I'd find in my school library. At that point, the book had been around for a little under a decade, and there were entries for both a Batwoman (who I had just discovered in an issue of Who's Who that I had scored at my local grocery store) and a Bat-Girl.

...and the concept just grabbed me, the idea of a Batwoman AND a Bat-Girl that was in Gotham's past. So I took myself down to my local comic book store - it was like two blocks from my home so I was there once a week after school, as one does - and asked the guys working there if they knew her.

...and thus I was introduced to Flamebird.

Nice. It’s so interesting how one can unexpectedly discover a character/canon and just wind up holding onto that

Isn't it? You never know what's going to grab you and how.

Animated!Jason happened for me because it was fall 2020 and I was bored, under lockdown like most of the world, and just browsing through the HBO Max library

Oh god, lockdown. What a time to discover new fandoms.

Jason...was a character who took me some time to come around to? It wasn't until the New 52 that I really came around to him, tbh, and now he's maybe my favourite of the (male) Robins.

That movie got me to finally take the dive into more comics. Before then, I was (and still am) more familiar with adaptations like the DCAU shows

Those DCAU shows were incredible, though. Such a fantastic distillation of many of the characters' comic histories.

My comics journey was very much like Batman '66 and Wonder Woman reruns, the old animated Batman and Superfriends cartoons, and the Supergirl movie which as a kid I LOVED, and of course the DCAU, which is what really got me reading comics, though I'd buy them every once in awhile before.

The movie had me super thirsty for more Jason stories and since there were so few adaptations of him, naturally I went to comics instead

Yeah Jason unfortunately didn’t get a lot of media adaptation love. Still doesn’t but it was nice that the live action Titans show adapted him.
