if you do any kind of fiber art—sewing, knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, etc. (and if you're asking "does my craft count?" assume yes and proceed accordingly)—and you'd be willing to contribute an item, premade or custom, to the auctions, please fill out the form!!
a queer publishing house i follow is doing this rn, using copies of their books and prints and such from the artists they publish, and i was really interested in finding a way to contribute similarly myself (i don't have much in the way of disposable income rn but my god can i crochet a witch hat)
and when searching turned up empty i figured i could attempt to organize something myself
nothing is a guarantee rn, it'll all depend on interest, but my thought process was that we'd get wider reach by being a whole group with different things instead of just me with my one li'l custom offer lmao
if you have any questions feel free to ask here!!!
i'm gonna switch to my main account though
a couple quick notes that are also elaborated on in the form: 32auctions will be handling the money so it doesn't have to go through me directly, there is no set timeline rn but there is a question on the form asking what timeline works best for you so that i can schedule around people's availability, and i've organized similar things before including a
charity bundle on itch dot io that raised over $1k and then was matched for $1k by an employer!!
also feel free to share this among friends who aren't on plurk!!
also this interest check/application is open 'til the end of july, at which point hopefully proper outreach and organization will begin!!
my july is busy but i've got plenty of time in august lkjfdfgh
thank you for all the pings!!!
I have a specific kind of item I do but I don't have any photos of it because I lost them to a virus - what do I do?
Lina also co-hosts a podcast on the craft and history of tatreez
I do have a yellow baby blanket I've been working on for two years...
holtagenda if you can get samples and photos by the end of the month the form is open 'til then!
I can get supplies and stuff by then or create a photoshop version now if you’re okay with that, it’s just a representation but
Basically I use paints or markers to create art pieces that duplicate the look of stained glass on wooden or fabric pieces
because of the nature of the auctions and the need to advertise them to strangers i don't think i can accept anyone who doesn't have concrete samples of their actual work, sorry!
ty all again for all the attention and interest!!! i'll likely bump this plurk a couple times throughout the month, and once the auctions are live, i'll make sure y'all know too
i sent this to a friend who has a stupidly large capacity for various fiber arts HAHA i hope you saw her insane submission
question: would a set of small items be something you'd consider? i do needle felting casually but because i do it casually i dont have any really big pieces to show off BUT i could make a whole bunch of small themed items
like this is not 100% what i'd do but something akin to, set of 3 felted pokemon starters/final fantasy creatures/etc
also i was away when you commented so i just answered the quick question but i DO see your friend's submission i think if she's the one who kept apologizing for giving to many options LMAO
yeah that's gotta be her lmfaooo every time I hang out with her she gives me a different random craft she's completed
HONESTLY I FEEL HER. i am like MONSTROUSLY into crocheting and i've recently gotten into making little resin doodads and decoden so i'm out here all the time like "look at this other random nonsense in my life"
are you over/under represented in anything right now? i do several different styles well enough i'd be comfortable selling
i haven't submitted anything and i'm happy to go in one direction or another
kadath not especially, thank you for asking! if you want to submit "here's the few different things i do, i can do one" i have a few of those, or you can just pick whichever would be most fun for you
i've got a few folks who have gone "i'll submit to this later" who i think are similarly dithering over options, but i don't actually have a ton of submissions right now
heck, i can submit a few different lots
if it helps, our offerings right now are crocheted hats, cross-stitched pieces, knitted socks or hats, banners made of fabric scraps, and someone who offered like five different things lmfao
you could also definitely do a few different lots if you're up for it!!!! i would ask that they all go under one submission into the google form, just lmk you're willing to do multiple
i figure right now it's fine to be like "there's a few different things i can do but which one i do depends" and when outreach begins we can discuss which specific things people wanna decide on
i do mostly jewelry (crocheted/embroidered/multi...media(?)) and embroidered (freehand and counted thread) wall art
OH ALSO are you targeting a certain value range?
not really! if anything i think having a wide range would be good
like should i be doing cotton and stainless or gold vermeil and silk?
i know this is a little unspecific and unhelpful LMAO but i figure once we get a sense of interest it'll be easier for folks who are like "i can make Whatever" to be told "okay here are our actual gaps" based on like, folks who are more "i can do x if we do y time or a if we do b time"
also tysm again for sharing this around, y'all—a lot of the fiber art specific communities have really strict "no politics" rules they're citing as reasons i can't advertise this at all, which. disheartening!
so plurk has been the biggest source of interest so far
yeah......................
(this is probably not going to remain true fortunately! i emailed the queer publishing house that ran the auctions i based this project off of asking for advice and they offered to boost this project in their rather sizable newsletter so i'm expecting more interest soon c:<)
they're
nova and mali btw; if you've heard of the Classics but Make it Gay series of art books they're the folks behind those!!!
I'm in a bunch of activist whatsapp/signal groups where i can boost this if you're happy for me to spread it around
that would be lovely, thank you so much!!!
oooh tysm for the resource!!!
hey pals!!! sorry for the li'l bit of radio silence but i'm bumping this and also updating rq with a note that i poked at 32auctions and contacted crips for esims and i'm gonna be able to get it set up so that all of the funds go straight to their paypal so the only middleman handling is 32auctions taking their fee
i'm actually in the process of making the thing(s) i want to offer, so you'll have my submission form...soo...n...?
i would actually encourage you to submit even if you don't have the item ready!!!
there's a spot where it asks about your timeline where you can go "i will have this done in a week" or w/e lmao
but i don't expect anyone to have their contributions ready right now (especially since some folks might do custom items) and i would rather have a more accurate headcount!!!!
uhhhhh in that case lemme take some shitty photos of similar stuff i already have done
lmao that works!!! yeah if you're holding off bc you don't have photos that's understandable but even shitty photos of old stuff is fine
i mostly just want to get a sense of the work you do y'know? those photos aren't for display they're mostly so i can just be like "okay this person does in fact know what they're doing" fkjdfgh
h/o i'll dig up representative items
no big rush, in part because i'm also extending the signup deadline 'til august 11th from the end of the month
i do, in fact, know what i'm doing
as far as fibers are concerned, anyway
crips for esims took a bit to get back to me and i wasn't sharing this around while i waited for a response, and i wanna give more time to get more signups
(for everything else, there's ~adderall~)
i keep meaning to do some watermelon/etc dyes anyway -
OKAY there you go, why is businessing so hard
