i know it was big but like did anyone ever do a game because im rewatching it on a lark and realizing i know exactly how to explain like everything needed for a jamjar setting
i.... feel like the idea might have been floated at one point?
for some reason i remember plurk icons with the logo so maybe someone tried to get it off the ground but it didn't get far
or maybe it was something else-
YEAH LIKE i feel like it was done but i can't remember bc i would have joined so hard it gave me whiplash
im just like. imagining a setting right at the start of the jaeger decline where they're losing pilots left and right. due to a failed experiment with the breach to try and close it, it becomes a portal to any other world and starts spitting out people (game characters)
considering how much games LOVE memshare events it seems wild that nobody's at least TRIED
who are, ofc, immediately conscripted into a kaiju war if they ever wanted to get home
at which point you can like place ur character within the structure, if they do science or tech or piloting or like all that shit yknow
YEAH IT'S SO EASY TO MAKE IT A REASONABLE JAMJAR SETUP.....
plus like.... you could make a stretch and not do depowering, so then as the kaiju see more magic/other advanced tech they evolve to start having that shit
and you could really personalize it based on the characters and what they've seen and done and like of course. drifting. the whole fucking. EVERYTHING. OF DRIFTING.
i just. it's right there u know. everything about it is Right there.
i did try to write an event for the last game i modded, but i could not get it together enough to submit it lol
we did a drifting event for folkmore but I cannot say that I have seen a full game on dw! IJ had one briefly
yeah like i've seen EVENTS i just. del toro gave such a rich setting, i would love to explore that further
i was honestly just thinking abt it because with ryslig closing there's so few jamjars still just Out there, esp in a more real-world setting
and frankly im craving it after apocalypse how but it basically doesn't exist anymore
that would be so goddamn good...
i would totally app my del toro character from a different film lol
(realer world settings are my preference, i did not create the game i run)
listen i'd need to get my shit together like, heavily before i did anything like this, but this was 100% inspired by thinking about the jaeger taako and lup would pilot and how utterly stupid it would be
Meyggy
bedazzled juicy on the ass. flamethrowers out of every physical port. painted hot pink. they wanted a wig on it but it was nearly impossible so taako settles for it having a brim like a hat
absolutely awful (love it)
I saw an idea surrounding mecha floating around at some point I think a while back
and like think of the crosscanon cr that could inspire drift partners! the fucking found families! like! THERE'S JUST. AUGH
I've seen game events based on it but not a GAME
well good to know im not like forgetting some kind of dwrp history. but. yeah. again i would have to massively get my shit together but boy am i THINKING about it
I did a mini-event in my game based on pacific rim with jaegers that actually like... had steven universe logic of taking traits from both parties personalities etc. but other than that
I keep thinking there used to be one on either LJ or IJ, but it's been a while
SEE LIKE I FEEL LIKE IT WOULD BE A HIT, RIGHT
Look if you ever decide to do this I would be happy to lend help.
It sounds so fucking awesome.
THANK YOU i will keep this in mind
honestly the hardest thing to figure out would be the long-term structure, bc like, you have Two People, so if one person has to drop it kind of like. blows a lot up for the remaining person, which isn't great for game retention
Yeah. A system for finding/matching with new pilots would probably be a good thing to include.
Could have some sort of like, speed dating system where characters who apply get matched together to do a small thread for testing drift compatibility and if they mesh well and the players like it they can look into becoming partners?
For those who have trouble finding a partner on their own.
Apply as in elect to use the match system not apply to the game.
no yeah, I mean more like what do you do if you Have a pilot and a co-pilot and one drops. like how is that a thing where the remaining character doesn't get shafted or otherwise "downgraded" in some way
i guess there could be some npcs to possibly fill that role
experienced pinch hitters, effectively LMAO
I figured that people who lost their partner could go through the matchup process again... but yeah, that might be tiring.
Having NPCs to fill the role until a better match is found might work?
yeah it's def going to be limiting to a certain extent, but the movie really does show there isn't like a "one ideal partner" or like one person that ALWAYS works
(or rather just one person for each person, there can be variation)
Maybe an imperfect NPC match is slightly less powerful than a PC partnership?
To incentivize people to partner up but keep it from being a requirement.
Fully fleshed non Jaeger pilot roles and plot opportunities would also help.
Kaiju part harvesters, maybe? Could also have events where bits of other settings temporarily come through or breaches can be temporarily crossed or something and maybe those people are also in charge of exploring that stuff?
(I haven't seen PacRim in forever but things don't have to match canon exactly).
There could also be a scientist role? Like stay at the base and figure out things? That might be harder to make fun but events could have like a "figure out the answers to these questions" element or there could be stuff like "the pilots are off fighting and the harvesters are off exploring... and now something horrible has got loose in the base" stuff...
yeah there should absolutely be like non-pilot roles. you'd need people for training, for science in engineering and biology divisions at minimum. there are always scientist characters who would rather research than fight LMAO
mynameislegion: Ohhh Shiny that is a GREAT idea to bring some variety into the mix re: setting and different things to do
....wow I totally thought this would work like discord when you reply to things and it shows you the thing you replied to LOL god I am sleepy
I know I basically want to re-write PacRim: Uprising because I feel like it REALLY could work if given many, many tweaks... but it certainly opens up good ideas for a jamjar
Lol
I think lumping the various research type things into a general researcher role, the exploration and gathering into a general gatherer role, and monster fighting and Jaeger stuff into a general pilot role is probably the way to go about it.
Run it like factions except they're working together, competing to be the most helpful/awesome/do the most cool stuff during events.
And probably have major evts be really spectacular but only happen once every 2-3 months.
With smaller mini events/general plot things happening to fill in the blanks between them.
This would also allow room for player discoveries/plots/etc. without them getting pushed aside or overshadowed by mod stuff or everyone burning out.
yeah honestly that makes sense and i like the structure
i should not be doing this. but. fuck. i want it so bad. and shiny you have good ideas HJSKLSF
We would need someone good at drumming up interest.
...I am the opposite of that.
Everything I do flops cause of my difficulties promoting it.
I mean, I'm not worried about reach, I think there's lots of people who would be hype about it if we did it well
Just cause it's good doesn't mean people who are interested will see it.
But I said I'd be down to help and I am.
There are other things that would need to be decided on. Like activity checks, for instance. I personally lean towards low AC-filling out a big complicated form every month is an asspain-but is that what we want here? What about bonuses or rewards?
What characters are gonna be allowed? Just canons? OCs as well? Stance on malleable protags?
Like, a part of me wants to argue for low AC on the grounds that it prevents things like filtering out a Jaeger pilot's partner who is usually active but having a bad time, which could lead to the loss of both players/possibly start a drop chain.
A game structured like this could be very easily prone to that and I've seen how it can kill games.
Yeah for real, I wouldn't want it to be big complicated AC but I do really like bonuses based on activity. And I'd say canon for sure, maybe oc but def no fandom ocs, i think we both love malleable protags so I'd say yes on that LMAO
but i'd say exact AC would depend on the structure of the game and how events/other structure works to see what's a reasonable amount of activity
