As before, my current loudest are Cheris, Red, and (technically) Mithrun, but I'll do my best with
any of them. ^^
12. What does your character carry on them at all times?
Ram, please! And anyone else you wanna do it for! ^_^
Ram (rerezzed grid_lined version) always carries his lightcyle baton! He also likes to have a couple energy bars handy, and maybe some little energy treats in case he comes across any wild Bits. ^^
Ooooh, awesome! Aaaaah, I love that he carries snacks for Bits, that's so cute!
Any chance to make someone happy!
Oh, also his disc, but I guess that goes without saying. XDDD
Anyone else? (It's easier when someone else picks!)
That's so sweet that he does his best to make other people happy! <3
Hee, yeah, that's important! 🤭
How about Roy and Eckert? ^_^
these are a bit all over the place but I'm curious about your new bean!
MewtwoWarrior Eckert carries nothing but his disc and cane, which is ironic because he's one of the few people on the Grid whose outfit has room for real pockets!
If he needs to go somewhere he has a vehicle come for him or signs out a lightcycle from the building's roster.
In the User world, Roy's got keys, change, license and whatever other wallet cards, water bottle, sticky notes and at least one pen, tissues, comb, small laptop or tablet (rebuilt so it can't be remotely hacked) with charger,
headphones, a USB drive or two, emergency band-aids and Tylenol, hand sanitizer, and probably a nice rock he found. He carries a phone sometimes but not all the time (if he's doing something particularly sensitive, he uses a burner or goes without), and no longer has a pocketknife because too many buildings screen for that nowadays. >c
On the Grid, his disc, a lightcycle baton, energy bars, probably a multitool of some kind for codework. Things are a lot easier when so much of what people carry in the User world is just built into the infrastructure.
Miz_Bluebird ! Cheris's coffee order: I actually don't know. Probably something with at least a little sweetness and some kind of savory spice, but coffee is mysterious to me. I don't think it was served at high table (company mess) and will have to search the books to see if it's mentioned at all. XD
Would she choose immortality? hAHAHAHAHAHA NO. All (2) immortals she knew of had very large problems and inflicted even larger ones on the hexarchate because people had become things to them, deliberately in one case and via trauma in the other.
She'd probably choose being less breakable than the average human if that was an option, but hanging around centuries past one's due date in a world where that's not normal is just asking for a god (or gun) complex.
Hand temperature and whether they ever make that someone else's problem: Cool and dry, usually. They sweat sometimes when stress, but usually if things are that bad sweating the least of her problems.
More important is that she has not worn Kel gloves since she left the military. The Kel wear full gloves at almost all times and ungloving while in the service is tantamount to giving a very serious oath;
it doesn't exactly bother her anymore but she's still always aware that her hands are touching air. Handshaking isn't a thing in the hexarchate and she was reserved by nature since childhood, but I could see her inflicting cold hands on a partner if she ever got close enough to anybody to have one.
(Looking back at the second question, people had become things isn't exactly accurate for Jedao, but the only way he knew how to solve problems was to go to war, and being immortal gave him so much more time for that!)
Cheris is quite an interesting bean for me.
She's one of my rare main-protagonist characters and has been focused on external events for long enough that there's a lot of interiority she'll need to explore before it comes back to bite her. It's always risky to continually set yourself aside in favor of rigid convictions.
Those are fun, thanks! I love the juxtaposition of Eckert carrying nothing and Roy prepared for ALL THE THINGS 🤭 I especoally love Roy's nice rock and the worldbuilding of Eckert being able to sign out a community lightcycle!
Two VERY DIFFERENT PEOPLE!
And yeah, I figured a cultural nexus like the EoL building probably has extra community infrastructure built in.
Ideally there'd be plenty of places around the city to deposit community bike batons and they could just be beamed back to the source building. I'm still miffed that Legacy didn't include the kind of teleportation used to get programs on and off the Game Grid. There are SO many applications for that.
Indeed! 🤭 Oooh, yeah, that makes a lot of sense! Everybody goes there, so there's help if needed.
Oooh, I love that, especially them going back when done with!
~Ooooh, yeah, that would've been great! Would've made some things a lot easier!~
