Dog going nuts, standing in my room when I'm trying to sleep, barking. I wake up, start to do my daily routine, and suddenly. Rattling in the fireplace behind me 
Apparently there's a rat who's found out it could get into the house through the open flue. Tiff saw it run up there from behind the television and shut the flue once it ran back up the chimney, and now it can't get back in, but it's sure gonna try. 
No wonder the doggo was distressed and warning me about spooky things!
