so, kate shows up at scawwy and immediately realizes this is NOT her house of horrors but is also like. did someone fckin banish her to the scawwy dimension because she was being too suspicious in her canon?? so she starts out kind of terrified that like. this is an execution and she's been separated from her friends so they can all be disposed of.

but also very conspicuously, she is the only shadow there!! everyone else has faces!! so she spent the first weekend trying to hide her non-face and blend in with the humans. she does this badly

there are a couple people she outs herself to like right away

one of them is caelus and she does this entirely because his intro tl was him waving a stick around like a dumbass. which called back a very specific mental image from home that made him look friend-shaped to her

karma came at her immediately with middle school bully vibes that did not change even after seeing her non-face and she's like ??? because it was just. such a normal/human way to get treated by a boy her age. so even though he was an absolute gremlin she kind of liked him immediately

i'm sorry to say that in canon, kate's best friend emilico is a literal clown from the circus

so if you are a clown, kate probably likes you actually

but while some people were surprised to see her face, most people ended up being okay with it? nobody gave her a hard time. some didn't say anything and some asked questions that ranged from easy to answer to actually very hard for kate to answer

KATE LIKING CLOWNS

yeah

scien told her that her partner was a clown and she was kind of like "oh, good"

kate was really cautious about eating food and ended up making a makeshift fishing rod so she could get her own food.... because "kidnapping people and slipping mind-altering substances in their food" is a thing where she's from so she's like. don't eat the food your kidnappers put out for you.

this pretty much continued until she was monster-possessed, because one of the longterm effects of monster possession was an increased appetite and also she kind of stopped caring about her wellbeing a little bit

kate was assigned to the haunted house and that ended up being a treasured home and family to her

at first she was very apprehensive about living in close quarters with other people, though. she did not think it was safe for them, with the soot her body produces

(and the fact that in canon, her soot can literally come alive and attack people if not cleaned up properly!!)

she didn't tell that part to most people, so she had a hard time expressing why she was so anxious

because she didn't want them to think she was a dangerous monster in a place where they were being menaced by dangerous monsters

she did tell laudna right away, since laudna immediately came off as someone who could be trusted with any stuff along the lines of "i don't want to be seen as a monster/danger to others." kate had a feeling she would understand that stuff and trusted her much more quickly than the others

and everyone else was actually very understanding about the soot and many of them offered to help her clean, which was touching

she had some cute early-game bonding with iwatooshi over being nonhuman and also being worried about being a "fake"...

since kate came straight from pretending to be a noble to fit in at the shadows house, and pretending to be a human to sneak around the villages, she came into scawwy like... wait, can i actually just stop lying all the time and try to be myself? but then she actually had to. kind of figure out who she even is, without the pressure to pretend

so if anyone noticed some inconsistencies between stuff she said w0/w1 and later on, it's because she had to kind of. slowly figure out how to stop lying and start being a real person

iwatooshi also taught her some self-defense techniques that she could use against bigger, stronger opponents!! ...... which she ended up incorporating into her murders later on, oops

iwatooshi like "aim for the stomach, or the legs! get behind them, slash the back of the knees!" all very good advice, thank you

so she ended up slashing cloud in the back of the knee, kanda in the ankles, and will in the stomach

her first murder was cloud in w2... me and kabby got rolled for chimera and we went back and forth on trying to choose someone for a while

icly, camille poisoned a drink at curfew and they just agreed that whoever ended up drinking the poison would be the target

cloud ended up kicking kate in the ribs so she just went to trial with broken ribs

and refused to be touched

and worked very hard to get the other monsters caught instead so everyone would be distracted with them

camille got caught and kate got off scot-free... whee

she felt extremely guilty towards yuffie and was also a little bit scared after seeing yuffie midtrial lucas (kate did not want to die!!!) so she was kind of avoidant after the trial

but yuffie noticed that and went out of her way to go try to cheer her up... which made her feel MORE GUILTY but also she couldn't turn away yuffie and make her feel worse!!

so their friendship continued to deepen and she continued to feel very bad about it but also just extremely fond of yuffie...

kate spend a lot of the next few days asking people about what they thought about camille and what they thought needed to be done...

... partly as a way to feel out who she could trust, when she was possessed herself

and unfortunately, most people were like "damn i wish there was a better way but she probably has to die and definitely will" so kate's like ok i am never telling anyone

the hh getting together like ok, we missed a monster... maybe we should watch who camille talks to, keep an eye on that and kate's in the room like 🧍

anyway she goes to scien like "so, camille's been released, what happens now?" and he just straight-up to her face is like "well she might get targeted since she's a known threat, unlike you"

and she's like oh shit

turns out the overseers know all the monsters

so kate ended up confiding in scien about monster stuff while seeking help from him to try to not end up dead...

this was also the week where yuffie came up with the glitter bomb plan

and kate was like ok

so she got them the glitter... despite being the one most likely to attack someone (and then she did)

also camille got MURDERED and that really upset kate because there went the one person among them that she could talk to and trust with this

gale saw that she was upset and confessed to her. told her the entire plan. and she threw a bit of a tantrum at him but also he kept saying stuff like "secrets will be the end of us" so part of her was also like DOES HE KNOW????

DID HE CONFESS ABOUT CAMILLE TO DRAW OUT A CONFESSION???

i'd put in a murder proposal w3 already but i was gonna put gale on the list when i submitted for w4 (but instead the mods just gave me kanda from my w3 submission so i went with that.)

it was gonna be "gale or kanda" (+ will) anyway because kanda was like. the most intimidating guy to kate and her monster. he seemed like a threat

they talked about camille and unsurprisingly kanda just reiterated that the only way to cure her is death. and then he asked kate what she would do if it was her and she answered with like... her current thoughts on her current, actual situation. that she wanted to live, but she didn't want to hurt anyone

and he was like "make a choice"

and there was another OH SHIT DOES HE KNOW moment... (he did not, he was just being kanda)

but she was constantly terrified of being found out by kanda specifically, since they lived under the same roof and he had more opportunity to observe and figure her out, and had a willingness to stab a monster if he saw one

camille came back from the dead and helped kate set up a way to restrain herself on thursday. they stole a coffin and kate got some rope, so during curfew, kate would go into the coffin, camille would tie the rope around it to secure it, and then kate would be unable to get out!

but kate ended up very much monster-controlled on thursday

in an effort to not do any more murdering, she decided to get rid of the knife she used in cloud's murder! she was going to bury it in the overseers' garden so it would be safely out of reach and would never be used to harm a twunk again

but instead she crossed paths with will and ended up suddenly stabbing him to death

then she prepped some things for murdering kanda (including loosening the nails on her coffin so she could just leave after camille sealed her in there) and went on her murdering way yippee

also this week was when she started physically turning, so it meant she entered her cute hate era

she straight-up had devil horns for the whole week and had to dodge headpats from rondo a few times

and gojo too

I PLANNED HER WHOLE WARDROBE FOR THE WEEK there were a lot of hats

then she survived the trial and i was like FUCK i have to go back to pinterest!!

with kanda's murder she once again had to fight dirty because she is a pathetic lil baby, so she used things like the hallucinogenic tea, distractions in the carnival, making a bear fight him, slashing his ankles

he got her back with the sword and it left black blood on the blade

me like if people can't see kate's body then i'm gonna make sure that any time she gets injured in a murder-related way it'll be something really big that will get picked up immediately in strip check (she did not get checked)

anyway the other funny thing about that week was... kate's journey to get a partner

kate was the succubus and had love arrows! she was like hmm this can be used strategically. for example i can immediately tell that cloud is not my partner because he absolutely would not love arrow himself to aventurine

so she love arrowed a bunch of girls to help her partner figure out who she is!!

unfortunately, her partner was lavi, who did not want to match, and he went as far as love arrowing himself to throw her off

but she still narrowed it down!!

and by w4, she was 99% sure her partner was lavi

tuesday...

me like OH NO if they matched on friday after she fucking murdered kanda it would the funniest and most terrible thing imaginable

friday...

then sunday... lavi comes over and kate's like "have you decided on a wish you're willing to die for?" and he's like yeah i wanna know who killed yuu

and she just. confessed to him there

and he ended up pairing with her anyway

at the time, kate was grappling with the fact that she just murdered TWO MORE PEOPLE and that she very much did not have the monster situation under control

and that the only way anything could improve at that point was if she started trusting other people

and then lavi just handed her the perfect timing to confess right there

anyway she was also like. well i guess all this possession evidence is sitting in plain sight in my room so even though i don't think the overseers want to talk to me after i MURDERED THEIR WILL i'm gonna ask for a lock for my door

she sent a letter to scien requesting it and was like anyway you don't have to respond to this... which led to the funniest audience where he's just like
(kicks down your door because it doesn't have a lock on it yet)

her cr with scien was so sweet... it kills me

on w2 she got a memshare about how he can cure all kinds of shit and was like wait. can you cure me? and told him about her situation

so scien was going to help kate with her (gestures at the whole kate) situation but then she also got MONSTER AFFLICTED and he ended up being the guy she went to for that too...

even though he was also telling other people "yeah there's a monster out there and you should probably find it" but he was like. upfront with kate about that. and also, importantly, told her that he personally wanted her to live. and that it was okay for her to want that

and the fact that he would say that while everyone else seemed to be saying that she needed to die meant the world to her

he ended up being her shoulder to cry on whenever she was struggling

she also ended up going to him for advice sometimes since even though he was soft on her, he wouldn't pull punches when it came to like, hard truths and tough choices

anyway w5 was very funny because it was mail day

and kate just got like. a shitload of letters that were heavily redacted and expressed a LOT OF CONCERN about her

and yuffie and laudna were like hmm

so she ended up confessing to the two of them

which was a relief!! because those were actually the two people she most wanted to confess to but never had the courage to!

yuffie because kate felt she owed it to her after killing her castmate and also because she's like, kate's best friend and it was killing her to keep the secret for so long

laudna because she was more likely than anyone to understand kate, and because kate was fairly sure that laudna was the one person who would never hurt her (and there was the added thought of well. maybe the monster won't see her as a threat, which makes her a safe person to confide in?)

(which just shows that laudna was a honestly very smart pick for midtrialing her later)

they all ended up being very sympathetic to kate and didn't blame her for hiding it, which was the main thing she felt guilty over

like. the killing was very bad, but kate did not choose to kill anybody.
but she did choose to keep it a secret, which led to more people getting killed, so when she apologized to people, it was often for that, first and foremost. because she felt that that was in her power all along

they put together a plan to restrain kate on thursday night, without telling kate any of the details, so her monster wouldn't be able to sabotage the plan

and it worked! she did not kill anyone that night!

so they let her out and she went straight to scien to happily tell him that she put her trust in her friends and it worked and now everything's going to be okay!

but then the monster took over and stabbed him

while they were hugging

and he gave her a lil forehead smooch and then smashed an explosive vial to try to take them both out

she did not die from it and instead kept stabbing him until vin and anis caught up to them

anyway this pretty much all happened because in my murder dm with pixi, i was like "if i don't get caught this week i'm going to stab someone on the mingle"

and later the mods dmed me like... so do you wanna....

and dana offered scien which was very aaaa

it would have been very funny if kate ended up living to w6 after that. i think she would just become a feral forest creature at that point.

anyway that was pretty much the point of despair for her and she just kind of. retreated inside her mind for a bit. and had to finally accept that she was not going to get to live after all.

i'm so thankful to siz and yaywon for giving me a midtrial... a tweat

kate went to the graveyard and you would think things chilled out then but then she had dead reunions sunday+monday and living reunions wednesday and a cyoa and a breakout i feel like an insane person

she went on a critrole cyoa where she got to have sorcerer powers whee

and she solved puzzles with gojo (or maybe made them worse idk) but then she fell down a hole and died

and in the process of getting revived she unwittingly sacrificed the lives of 25-50 cats

and she got the most incredible cyoa effect of crying every time anyone reminded her of cats

AT THE SAME TIME THAT IWATOOSHI WAS CURSED TO NYANSPEAK OR SOMETHING

10/10 curse, wish it lasted like 100 hours

just this for two days

AND THEN SHE ALSO HAD HER BREAKIN WITH KANDA which was such... good stuff for their cr

because for so long kate had been nervous around him and then this guy, without any hesitation, tries to sacrifice himself (and lavi lol) for her. maybe he did think he could heal through it. kate did not think that, she definitely saw it as sacrifice

she was about to walk away but then was hit with the realization that sacrificing kanda and saving herself meant repeating the same mistakes that she made before. that she'd get to have some good times with her loved ones but she'd ultimately end up hurting them more and more and losing more of herself

so she went back and saved "lavi" instead and stayed with kanda

it was so good... she already thought that kanda was a good person, but that adventure kind of pushed it past "quiet respect" to "active trust and fondness"

for postgame, kate is going back to the shadows house with the intention of taking over the house for herself and saving the children there

scien offered to give her support from a distance and now he's like... her guardian for life

karma is also coming with her to assassinate the grandfather of the house

im so proud of her

she went through a big emotional rollercoaster with him...

w4 when it turned out he killed camille, her chimera partner... but that he also saved camille...

and then kate kind of realizing that maybe she could be saved the same way but also that it was clearly tearing him apart so she's like. idk maybe not
