[Transgender] In light of Texas being awful (again) and now saying they won't change IDs for gender marker changes, I would like to note that the passport is a form of legal ID and you only need court orders for name changes on it, not for gender marker changes.

Obviously this is still awful, and you need a drivers license to drive. Also, not only will submitting for a marker change on a license not work, it also gets worse. Employees have been told to document everyone who attempts to submit a gender marker change. I don't know what they plan on doing with this list of people, but it can't be for a cupcake party.

But in the meantime! Passport cards are compact and fit in the wallet. Also they are like $100 less than a full passport. They don't work on international flights, but otherwise they work like a passport. You even have the option of having an X marker if you don't feel M or F fits. I would be afraid of discrimination based on that in a transphobic state tho

I don't think most of the people I know here are in Texas, but there are a couple other states that don't allow changing the marker on the license by this point, and I have no doubt it's in the works in others.

I personally have used my passport book as my ID for jobs basically as long as I've had it, because if you use that you don't need anything else the way you would with a drivers license. So they're actually even better for jobs than a drivers license. I don't know how they work for say, apartments tho

And I can't speak from personal experience for the passport card for job applications. I'd have to ask HR when she's back in the office.

What's also funny? Texas hasn't removed the ability to change your Birth Certificate with a court order (Yet). Like. What's stopping someone who can change everything BUT their driver's license from then going to change it like "Uhhh... this is a pretty egregious clerical error."

Passports don't have an address so I feel like they probably would try to reject them for voting. But if you have that and your voter registration card, I don't see how they could successfully reject it.

Update: Texas apparently just removed the option for changing the gender marker on the birth certificate. Shocker, I know.

So yeh, if you were born in tx even if you live in a state where you can change your ID, I def would suggest a passport for job stuff since you don't need the birth certificate with it. Ugh.

Like what's absolutely infuriating about this. Is people who maybe started rushing to get in the paperwork after the license changes were blocked will have had time to throw money away and get no result.

But? This is an interesting rush. It actually makes me feel optimistic for the state portion of the next election. Like these people think they'll lose and are trying to push as much as possible through first. I could be wrong. It's just a lot of rush to get in changes that hadn't even been discussed previously.
