1 week ago: Huh, I have enough saved up and have a week off for Thanksgiving... Wonder if I can go to France to see my online friend whom I've known for almost 20 years but never met in person?

Today: /Just bought ticket for Paris

So, uh, anyone have recs for a person who's never been to France (and possibly taking a day trip to London)?

Just to show how long I've known this friend btw: I met her in Magic Kaito fandom back in 2009-ish :')b

Thoughts so far on what I wanna do: First and foremost hang out with my friend, def eat all the good food, go to art museums, check out the pre-Christmas decorations, go to the markets, maybe go to London to try out high/afternoon tea and stuff

are you planning on just staying around Paris or gong elsewhere in France?

also a day trip to london is doable but that will be a really tight squeeze

LivesInYesterday: It actually got extended to 2 weeks, if that helps |D But I was thinking of mostly staying around Paris for this trip, but would welcome recs for other areas, just to see if it's feasible for me to try for it this trip or possibly in the future!

i would probably recommend against trying to do london unless you are going to give it an overnight. I just feel like you'd spend more time traveling than you'd really get time in london so you wouldn't get to see or do much when you could be seeing more of Paris/France

I would recommend Versailles for an easy afternoon trip/day trip (you can decide how much time you spend there) the gardens alone are worth spending a day in

and it's a nice town

have you ever been to paris before?
Speak to people in French first and be gracious when they switch to English. If you don’t start with French, they will pretend not to know English
Also plan one entire day for the louvre. You can do musee d’Orsay and centre Pompidou together in one day but the louvre needs to be its own thing

LivesInYesterday: Other than that Greece cruise trip, I've never been to Europe, so I don't even know what to be on the lookout for, tbh |D But noted about London and Versailles!

lulabeth: Ooooh ok thanks for the tip!
I mean I could spend a week at the louvre but mostly just don’t try to do all three in one day (you won’t see as much as you want)

Oh also adding here while I dig up that ghost walk, it's a longass day trip, but doing Mont st Michel was another highlight for me

And seconding Versailles

Yeah, the louvre is HUGE. It takes multiple days if you want to see a good amount of it.

also if you decide you want to do anything on the eurostar, which i wouldn't necessarily recommend with the time frame you are working under, but just so you know, it's not like a normal train station. It's like going through an airport with border agents and such so it takes a lot longer (which is part of why trying to do a london trip would be hard)

for those places, I'd prefer like a tour or something that would talk about the people and the stuff they did! :>
