LUTE

1. On a scale of “is occasionally forced to bathe” to “Instagram model with sponsors to hoe for” how involved is your character's skincare routine?

Demon blood is good for the skin? Lute's quite low-maintenance but then being an angel she has a naturally glowing complexion so she doesn't need to worry too much. She does take care with her makeup when she wears it, because looking good matters to her. Lute is excellent with eyeliner.

2. What are your character's food preferences (flavors/textures/spiciness/calories/ when and how they eat) and how did they get that way?

She likes terrible greasy fast food. Burgers, pizza, hot wings. Lute doesn't eat a lot of it because she needs to keep in shape! But it's an occasional indulgence. Why? Adam loves it and Lute is always willing to try the things he loves. Sometimes she hates them! But the food is good.

So, average day, very sensible healthy diet for Lute, but if there's a reason to celebrate it's burger time

9 What would cause your character to choose to do something petty/pointlessly cruel?

I mean she does not need much provocation for this if you're a demon/sinner. You were there and she thought it'd be funny? She is generally much better behaved in Heaven but if someone is repeatedly annoying she might look for petty revenge out of spite

Malicious compliance with orders from seraphim that she thinks are being stupid

12. What perfectly-normal-to-them-thing does your character do that confuses/pisses off/terrifies their neighbours?

Walk around covered in demon blood. I think she is just too intense about things sometimes. Like there has to be some cover story for the exorcists and it's probably about guarding Heaven etc. So a nice angelic neighbour asks Lute for security advice and they get an infodump with much more violence than they were expecting

That or she loses her temper or gets frustrated and uses bad language that those nice Winners are shocked to hear from an angel

15. How often does your character “zone out” or do things on autopilot and how severe have the problems that have arisen from that been before?

Rofl

Nobunaga would tell her / Ari "this is just a layer of hell they don't realize it yet" matrix style. Punch god again

She has probably done this during Exterminations occasionally back when there was practically no resistance. Once you've killed the first hundred sinners it's easy to zone out a little - but she can snap out of it quickly if the situation changes!

More mundanely I can see her just zoning out when flying and ending up at the Exorcist training compound because she always flies there when today she should be somewhere else. Muttered cursing, dirty looks from passing angels, she has to turn around

3. What’s something pointless/petty/unimportant that totally irrationally annoys the fuck out of your character?

Rearranging stuff in astrogation, especially in the chart room. She knows where everything is, please leave it alone. She's annoyed at anyone who does this, even Savitskaya, because it's so unnecessary.

In games she used to be pettily annoyed by any use of the word 'magic' but strangely this hasn't really happened at - she is irrationally bothered by anyone saying 'your/my reality' to refer to different universes or timelines or whatever because it is ontologically unsound

Reality is objective and it encompasses all these constituent parts even if she finds some of them weird. It's either real or not. Very objectivist.

9 What would cause your character to choose to do something petty/pointlessly cruel?

Ari is really not the type to do this! It is possible other people think she is being cruel sometimes but she always thinks she is being very logical about this. I think closest would be her one-strike policy. She will extend trust to even the worst most unlikely people but if you betray her trust once she never forgets it and is cautious of you forever

10. On a scale of “Complete and Justified nervous breakdown” to “Conquer The Entire Galaxy and become an Immortal God-Emperor”, how well would your character handle being abducted by Aliens?

100% depends on circumstances. She is teleported onto an alien ship, she is super excited and ready for this, initiate first contact procedures, let's communicate through math! It would be momentous in her sector but she is well-trained enough to keep the nerves under control.

That's for friendly respectful aliens. If they are treating her like a test subject or seem to want to keep her there forever, Ari freaks out and the result is violence. She's going to escape even if she has to fly some freaky alien ship out of there herself

12. What perfectly-normal-to-them-thing does your character do that confuses/pisses off/terrifies their neighbours?

Now this has to do with Cardalek customs that seem weird offworld, but Ari's trying really hard to fit in on the Tradelines so it'll be subtler. They're shocked by how casual she is about the genemodding and her weird family situation. She is also more explicit about her values and all that stuff she loves talking about and some people think she should calm

down about it. 'My mother is the Company' but she does that on purpose. She also uses 'fair contract' much more liberally in her own setting, almost like slang sometimes where it actually just means 'I agree' or something

She tries very hard not to do this in game settings because it is hard enough getting all these weird aliens to understand the literal meaning without layering Company slang on top

Oh also other Company things like 'upper level' to mean better although she'd totally get away with that @ too

13. Under what circumstances would your character appear naked in public?

OMG this question. She is so private! Do communal showers on the ship count? They are a thing and no big deal to her although they are women only (this is not Starship Troopers)

Otherwise no. Except truly insane circumstances like 'your clothes are needed right now to save the ship' but Ari's in my head like 'no that just sounds like the setup for terrible holovid porn, would not happen'

14. What thing did your character's parents do that your character wishes they had a better explanation for?

Her dad was always pretty good at explaining things! I think deep down it'd be why her biological mother treated her so badly, beyond just not wanting her around but - 'ew don't touch me little Ari'. She knows the whole story about being unwanted and given to the genelabs but that's spun with the happy ending of adoptive dad who really wanted and loved her

What she doesn't know is that Miri Carrington promised Vanetta (her granddaughter, Ari's genemother) that if she donated the fetus to the genelabs she would never have to see the child, it'd be raised in another Tower.

Miri lied. Which is still no excuse for taking it out on baby Ari, but that's what happened
