( this was an rp plurk but now it's a talking about writing in general plurk ) with a preemptive nsfw content warning if my commission stuff goes into any detail.
latest #31
i've been playing Sunday Sleep Catchup today off and on all day and i feel like i've actually paid off all my insomnia debt, so that's p nice
but i do actually wanna get some work and some tags done tonight
i've been looking a lot into serial webseries writing and i'm thinking about maybe trying to start something like that up in addition to my commission work, so I can also be releasing regular shit that isn't just people's thirstmoney hornyjail requests

but it's gonna have to be another new original concept that isn't Interdimensional Post because we're pretty firm on wanting that to be a podcast adaptation release first and foremost
i have a few concepts i'm turning over but i don't know how strong they really are, so i'll need to probably sit down and try drafting a few arc outlines and see what feels best. and honestly
one of the best things about the IP project has been having a small group of people to bounce ideas and workshop things with, i kind of wish i had a server of other folks also working on original content for stuff like this, maybe i should scope around
the problem with reaching out to folks on plurk / in dwrp is that very few are actually interested in working on original content, and even fewer who say they're interested tend to follow through for very long — which is understandable, this is a niche hobby space and original stuff is a niche within a niche and tends to be this demographic's lowest priority
idk i'm just thinking out loud maybe i should make this a talking to myself plurk instead and move my rp stuff to a new one lmao

I don't know what this gif is but just know I literally spit water all over my desk when I clicked it open
there's a throwaway joke in the scooby doo episode about the happiest night of dean's life being with the cartwright twins, because apparently the spn writers didn't know that's a baseball team

A WHOLE BASEBALL TEAM.... damn, dean was busy
he's all about them bats and balls man
something something who's on first
i've been looking into a few different webserial platforms, it seems like Royal Road is one of the most well-known and most populated, but that the vast majority of the content that actually gets popular there is a genre i didn't even know existed

LitRPG ?? did you guys know that was a thing?? let alone, like, a huge fucking thing?
LitRPG and progressive fantasy are the two big things and god I just can't be assed to care about the nuanced dedication of progressive power fantasies and rpg mechanics in my writing. that's not all that's on there, but those are the big followings

and then right behind that seems like r/hfy which is largely a scifi genre, and I can def fuck with that, but the reddit platform for story releases is kind of uggo
i wouldn't have thought writers on there would get a big following but holy shit I scoped some of the more popular series' patreons and some of them are pulling between 4k and 10k a month in subscribers?? holy shit.

i also learned that wattpad apparently now does publishing deals where they push your work out into real books in the real world, but i'm like

ew... wattpad
maybe it's changed in the last ten years but i remember it being like, the lowest tier of writing in every way

grammatical sins in the eyes of god and word salad nightmares and like ff dot net circa 2003 content
i think actually i'll be sensible about my priorities and focus on finishing my IP letter first and foremost, so that's ready to go, and then I'll be slightly in a holding pattern on that until the next time dai and heather are available to meet up for us to assign the final round of letters of the arc
and while i'm in that holding pattern i can alternate days between drafting up serial concepts and completing commissions
bc i've got about 4 in queue and I've taken a few days off working them after that last sprint where i knocked them all out in an absurdly short amount of time
i'm like 16 pages in and it's probably half way done, if not a little more, so I should be able to focus it down in a few days
whether or not it's actually any good is another matter

I have worked on original stuff and have various original projects I'd like to work on, if I can ever get my executive function in gear

so at least I cheerlead the idea of doing your own stuff!

Aw thanks man, I appreciate that! Right back at you, the executive dysfunction is definitely the hardest part to tackle sometimes
