[uspol/psa] there is
no online voter registration in texas & folks are even reporting being deregistered, so pls make sure to double check if you are in TX
EDIT: other states that don't have online registration: Montana, Wyoming, Arkansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Mississippi, New Hampshire
How to register in Texas | Vote.gov
i am in CA but I saw
this on my tumblr dash and double checked and yikes! It is real! you have to physically mail/do the reg in person.
for other states:
https://www.vote.org/...
it's true: there are 8 states that don't allow online voter registration: Montana, Wyoming, Arkansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, and Texas
zoki.

(but North Dakota doesn't require advance registering at all so I'm not sure that's the same situation)
yeah in north dakota you can register at your polling place if you aren't already
even Oklahoma has online voter reg. come on, Texas, get with this century.
or well like. how to put it. you don't even really need to register, you just need your ID
the motor voter laws do require voter registration to be available at the DMV, so if you live somewhere where voter ID is required, you should be able to get both done in one visit
Mississippi? New Hampshire?? ones like Montana and Wyoming and the Dakotas I kinda get, even if they probably need it more than others, but surely these others have the population to support it
kharamagic: ive added this to the top plurk so more people see it, appreciate you for listing them out
relares: thats actually nice thanks ND
If you do id/dmv/food stamp stuff, they offer you to register, that's how I registered mine.
the cursed rectangle manages one decent thing
Yeah, North Dakota doesn't even have registration, just 'have a valid photo ID.'
Voter registration in Texas can be done at a ton of post offices, libraries, DPS offices, and a bunch of other kinds of municipal buildings.
im glad there are SOME options and it's not just like, you have to go all the way to X govt building
Yeah. Does it suck that you can't just register online? Yeah. But voter registration accessibility itself is pretty present everywhere and you can still request it to be mailed to you.
Where Texas really gets people is in getting the other things, like a state ID.
I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but this is more a "PSA! Texas sucks" to everyone who doesn't live in the state and it's kind of useless for anyone who does because it doesn't touch on the actual problems we have for voter suppression.
I think the reason this was going viral as a tiktok a few weeks ago, specifically about texas, was because fake 'online voter registration forms' were getting to the top of google search results
and some people in the states that don't allow online voter registration were filling them out thinking they were registered but they weren't
but that could potentially happen in any state, so! it's important for everyone to make sure they're on official channels
^ yeah that was the context with which i shared it & found out about this
i am admittedly ignorant about what the actual other issues are in texas! just wanted to share the reminder for TX and other states without online reg
There are multiple disinformation campaigns going on right now in states with mail-in ballots with sending fake ballots to people to trick them into thinking they've voted.
very good reminder to be aware of any and all voter suppression tricks nationwide & to always doublecheck to be sure your shit is official
In New Hampshire you can register in person on Election Day at the polling place.
anecdotally tx failed to update my voters registration address after i updated my txdl in person at the dmv and selected the option to update my reg address so i had to drive four hours to vote in 2016. even if you jump through all the right hoops you should double check your status.
