There are four Cures here and one of them stands out as not having a lot of the design elements that the others share
Rosetta’s bow is in the front instead of on the hip. She doesn’t have the sleeves and her shoulder pads are completely different. It’s not obvious from this image but she has a totally different style of skirt from the other three
She doesn’t have a white hair ornament in the center like the other three. She has big earrings that none of the others do.
Also her name is weird? Like, Cure Heart, Cure Diamond, that’s really straightforwardly named after card suits. Cure Sword is. Not quite accurately named but whatever, it’s close enough.
But Rosetta? The closest connection I can see to the Clubs suit is that it’s the Italian name for a Rosette, which is a small rose-shaped ornament. And Roses are flowers, which clover kind of is.
(But why not just name her Cure Clover? That’s not actually taken!)
None of the above is what bugs me, but it’s important context
What bugs me is that you have a member of the gang who is a refugee from another world, the last survivor of a different Precure squad
And you have one cure with an off-brand name and different design elements
and somehow these are not the same person
Cure Spade would just evoke shovel, lmao.
Yeah and the other alternate meaning for the Spades suit is a bladed weapon, it’s just. A pike instead lol.
Like I said, close enough
swords is a suit of tarot cards
(What I do think would be cool is if the Trump Kingdom cures were named for tarot suits$
(But the fact that the theming clearly is slotting her into the Spades role makes me think that wasn’t what they had in mind)
I'm so glad to not be alone in this anymore
me while we were watching: yeah it kinda bugs me that rosetta's design elements are not as uniform as the others for seemingly no reason
you: oh they're not that different
you after seeing all four in one shot: HEY WAIT--
once you notice you can't unsee
even her post transformation catch phrase is a different formula
Yeah I forgot to say that, it’s a totally different transformation phrase
I just. Cure Sword should clearly be the odd one out here
the only thing i can come up with is her being a shield maiden and thus a different kind of fighter
the alternative more practical answer though is prob that she was designed last (besides the mid season cure, and those get free passes to be a little different anyway)
I have noticed that Ace has Rosetta’s shoulder pads
I wonder if she was maybe a reworked midseason cure, like Cure Macaron was.
this isn't even the first time precure has totally beefed a card suits theme
Fresh's team is hearts, diamonds, spades, and hearts
in fairness after seeing the way they had to contort rosetta's fingers to make her do a clubs symbol with her hands (as the first three fresh girls would do) i don't... blame 'em for struggling with that one
i have tried to do what rosetta does it is NOT very comfortable
Isn’t the whole team kind of clover/clubs themed in Fresh?
it's honestly all over the place
Yeah, Fresh has this whole "our theme is cards but also fruit but technically it's actually clover symbolism" thing
Yeah fresh has got sprinklings of various themes
It’s a spaghetti season throwing things at the wall
Suite honestly feels like the first time they just went ALL IN on one theme specifically (heartcatch also kinda??? But they’re not. All named after flowers or anything.)
I thought Marine/Sunshine/Moonlight were meant to be "things that help flowers grow".
Futari wa's light/opposites theme and Splash Star's kachou fuugetsu theme were pretty simple but Yes was all over the place and just named everyone but Dream and Rose after their colour... apparently they'd considered a gemstone theme but figured kids wouldn't know all the gems.
I guess by the time MahouPre came around they were like 'eh it's fine, kids'll figure it out'
That and they were using it as a secondary theme, kind of like the pastries in Kirakira.
