I do however suck shit at consuming media so. it's not a very fixable problem

I look canons I don't know but look interesting up on tvtropes to get a basic grounding in what they're about

if i really dont feel up to reading a canon i find a crossover with the canon

this is the worst approach but its worked so far

honestly that sounds like a great approach for me

I love reading weird crossover fanfic

yeah!! exactly!! weird crossover fic is my lifeblood

i have way more of a grounding in naruto and bleach than i should purely off the backs of crossover writers

I have like a pretty good sense of the early plot of naruto entirely from reading fanfic

yeah I also read fanfic for unfamiliar canons pretty often lmao

Yeah but sometimes it’s nice to like. Be able to go “oh I want to tag that character on bakerstreet/that new dressing room because I know they’re interesting/would bounce interestingly off this character I have”

It was always like this for me too bc I don't just like. get into things or try things unless it hits something very specific that makes me interested
