So it's not as pretty as I'd hoped for. I feel like it's not quite as quality in graphics as it could be? But it feels right, which is way more important.
People are complaining about James' voice actor, and I don't see a problem with this one. James had stunted emotions all bagged up, and it sounds like it here.
I will say that some of the more intense emotions could use a little more emphasis.
His fighting sounds are big angry and I like it. It feels like he's really bubbling up with fury and I'm here for it.
It's absolutely not shot for shot or perfect replicas of the original and I love it for that. The game feels familiar, but also fresh so far
Also, regardless of the game, the skittering lying figures kill me. Such a funny animation for a horrible monster.
Okay it's really pretty and details are so much easier to see than SH2
For an environment/lore nut this is a dream
LOOK AT THIS DOOR. Like, it's so pretty and old looking
It's so much easier to see things than the original, but compared to some of the games in the past couple of years it looks dated.
LOL lying figure just opened a door and scooted in
I fucking love this sign and building
Also I really dig being able to break glass to get into buildings
the volumetric fog is lit ngl
Some of the graphical fidelity might be limited by hardware
and I agree I like James' voice actor here, I know him being a stunted weirdo was kinda iconic but I think this one is also doing a pretty good job
And James' voice actor was iconic, and I get why people prefer it, but this guy is doing pretty damn good
this one feels like a real VA with some training at the very least, the old VAs were funny but not necessarily good
YES that's exactly how it is
I loved Angela's voice acting from the graveyard scene
I know everyone loves hers but it felt like it was almost mocking trauma survivors in the original game to me. She's a little more subdued here but it gets the point across quickly that not all is right with her
oh man Angela did so good, she actually struck me as a scared teenager
I've only seen a bit so far and it was good enough that I picked it up this morning
I'm still very early in game, but I'm looking forward to seeing more.
I'm sure I will! I might be a SH fannerd but I'm not in camp automatically hate everything new ever
also someone please remake 1, it desperately needs a polish
YES. It needed a remake way more than 2 did.
God, imagine the dog head basketball part from 1 in better graphics. That'd be nightmare fuel for sure
So many good parts of SH1 would be amazing in a easier to see style
also a voice actor that properly emphasizes the alarm of the situation wheeze
YEAH THAT TOO. The game was brilliant as a whole but it could use a little more emphasis when the situation was dire
Face
? down ass up that's the way we stalk the traumatized
They go hard on chasing you down
I wanna play this instead of just watching. I haven't been this excited about a game in ages
Another thing I really like is being able to read signs and see details when close enough to buildings
I mean, you could with some buildings but not like this
Lying Figure heels
One of my favorite useless things out of any SH game
agreed it's nice to be able to actually read the things now
The environments are a huge part of what makes SH games feel like SH games, so it's good to be able to get a better grasp on the town
Also, I'm digging the way James' coat swishes. A minor detail for sure but I like it
I'm only a damn hour in, I'm pausing to look at details and it's making this a much longer process than it should be.
I don't remember lying figures being able to open doors. It's been a while since I played the original game though
Ooh, his hand got dirty and it's staying dirty
Okay, didn't stay dirty long.
He's especially nosy today. All over my desk, it's a big adventure.
Anyway, enough about the adorable nuisance. Back to SH
I also really like how the maps open up. It's the little things
There's plenty of notes and side stuff to do. It feels right, they really captured the exploration and the little mysteries
I like that it's familiar enough, but also has changes that make the game feel new and worth exploring more. It's what I want out of a remake
The environments are more immersive and explorable, there's a lot more interaction than I remembered. Windows can be broken, items can be moved (to some degree), it feels bigger than the original.
I forgot that the mannequins don't trigger the radio until they move, and I got a good spook for a moment
I forgot how obnoxious her character was.
I rarely hate child characters but...
James' reaction to her art is cute though.
Unpopular opinion, I'm glad he's more than just James' monster now. I like pretty much every incarnation of him.
He's just got such a great design
My reaction to a horrific monstrosity
There's still some barrier that look like they can be moved/small enough to move easily, that aren't able to be gotten around. Annoying but not the end of the world
They had the pram in the pool with the lying figures. I loved that part, I don't know why but I'm glad it was included in this game.
I got jumpscared by a washing machine
Pyramid Head and the mannequins scene yess
So I'm gonna finish this up and make a new plurk for tomorrow.
The moth room was everything I wanted
Enough about the apartments
I LOVE MARIA AND HER VOICE ACTOR. Holy shit she sounds good and looks good and is very endearing despite her pushing James' boundaries
And that's where I'm leaving off for today
Oh, I lied. Angela's voice actor continues to be great.
I keep lying, I'm not done. James is like a nervous horse, and Maria scares the shit out of him. He's so uncomfortable. I also love the way he curls in on himself, there's a lot of phenomenal body language
