真金未必閃耀奪目，
遊蕩者未必迷了路；
矍鑠老者並未萎枯，
霜凍不及根基深處。

灰燼中必喚醒火焰，
陰影中必躍出光亮；
殘缺的刀鋒必重鑄，
無冕王將再次登基。

值得一提的是，全詩首句 “All that is gold does not glitter.”，為著名英諺 “All that glisters is not gold.” 的變體（直譯為「閃耀如金者未必是金」，意譯為「金玉其外敗絮其內」）。此英諺據說源於伊索寓言，莎士比亞後將此諺，巧妙嵌入他的戲劇《威尼斯商人》中，從此更廣為人知。

孟子名言，此時讀來亦頗有深意：「仁，人心也；義，人路也。舍其路而弗由，放其心而不知求，哀哉！人有雞犬放，則知求之；有放心，而不知求。學問之道無他，求其放心而已矣。」
