It posited that modern society puts a lot of emphasis on controlling anger
because it's "bad" to be angry
and disruptive to the social fabric
but that expressing anger actually does serve a very important social purpose
Studies showed that in general, when someone is exhibiting signs of anger, people are more likely to listen to them
Anger is disruptive because it's supposed to be
It's a signal that alerts everyone around you
"MY NEEDS ARE NOT BEING MET"
"SOMETHING IS WRONG AND NO ONE IS TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY"
And then everyone goes "Oh I didn't realize it was such a big problem to you" and the problem can be addressed
anyway I don't think there's really such a thing as a "bad" emotion
There is badly expressed emotion, and too much emotion, but there is no bad emotion.
i think it's important to draw a line between controlling your anger and suppressing it
you should control your anger, because then you can direct it more effectively to the correct target
but when we talk about "controlling anger" because it's disruptive etc, we usually mean "suppress your anger"
but anger is an important emotion that communicates important information, and if you are in control of your anger then you can use it as a tool for that communication
Yeah. There are a lot of men out there who believe that the only manly emotion it anger and then try to justify all kinds of not ok behavior based on that anger.
