Your Zerg, your tyranids, etc etc etc
But the vague idea I had was that in addition to fighting the big bugs
There’s also just an endless sea of zerglings that don’t have individual stats
Instead you all just have a measure of how close The Swarm is
No real battle map, or a highly abstracted one
The Swarm advances by X distance ranks depending one what elite bugs are nearby
You’re all in cool mecha armors festooned with guns
But most of your guns are just dedicated to clearing space so you can fight the big bugs without getting submerged in a sea of claws
Maybe a battle “map” like in Lancer Battlegroup
Just a series of concentric rings
Divided into sixths, let’s say
Okay the concentric rings only works if you have like a central base
Maybe some kind of big carrier tanks thing
Sindri’s Garden, The Onbu, what have you
So then you have characters moving around within that range, clearing the path forwards
This is sounding more like a board game than an rpg, honestly
Honestly you know what this is?
This is a challenge scene in a valor game
Protect the base while fighting bug monsters
Use mounted guns on your mobile base to push back The Swarm
You get major penalties for trying your fight in parts of the map that are swarmed
It would be a lot of work to keep track of it all but I think if you balanced it well it could be VERY exciting
I like the idea of taking a big valor map and splitting it into zones that have a heat rating indicating how many zerglings are in them
Yeah that’s the basic idea
It’s very much the feel of fighting the tyranids in SM2
Individual hormagaunts are harmless
But like if they get too thick around you the damage can start really building up
You want to be focusing on killing the warriors but sometimes you gotta take a bit to clear out the chaff
If we’re doing this in Valor then you could have The Swarm collectively have a character sheet
With technique limits of like “can only be used in zones where the swarm strength is above X”
