maniette yarnzipan magicom one last round of pings. If you wanna pie post, if you wanna post on X day after characters feel better, I'm here
Walter is feeling... Lame. He ultimately did almost nothing. He was trying to find out who wanted to leave, switch, what the cost of energy was, but ultimately all he learned was that the Admiral has no intention of letting anyone go
arthur doesn't feel like he's in a position to make a post, since he's the victim so it feels like whining about getting got, lmfao
This event confirmed and/or worsened pretty much every single thing Walter assumed about the barge.
* Justine attacking him seemed to be totally foreseen by John Doe, similar to Blitzø attacking Pyotr
* The barge is literally set up a certain way to brainwash people (indirectly through pressure) according to arbitrary untrustworthy standards of personal growth, and navigates through more floods and breaches for this purpose
* the vast majority of people on the barge, to varying degrees, do not give a single fuck about the aforementioned bad conditions on the barge and will happily switch into "oh I was in berserk mode teehee" and !! actively damage !! other people and their livelihood
Those are the main umbrellas information falls under. He's feeling bad about the experience of "not getting through" to Misty but that's in parallel with the event itself.
Walter is physically well because he was basically getting babysat in the infirmary this whole time, recovering from his various maladies for the early part of October.
He's going to try to play the same card he did during hell flood, that library circ desk is technically an important duty someone has to do, but if given sufficiently clear and specific instructions, he'll try to do... Something.
Also similar to hell flood, he does care a lot about his movie club buddies who have once again taken it on the chin.
Yeah, the poor barge haters.
Everything is so hopeless that I anticipate Walter kinda giving up on avoiding The Process even though it's actually bad because he has so little faith in The Process. But that said, Wu Xin is in the queue, though a little later
Walter would like to sneakily know more about his past. He really thinks the boy got freaking used
Probably not in the way he thinks, but not far off the mark.
Like specifically his perspective is that naive people were taken advantage of and just... Fighting like crazy...
Yup, not what he thinks at all.
Catch up drinking, he might let slip some things.
yeah i checked with danii and John + Arthur are gonna leave it to Malcolm
Warden Privilege is "getting to be the one who announces your inmate fucked up"
Okadoko. Yeah, I didn't believe anyone besides Malcolm posting had been actively proposed, but then it's like oh if John or Arthur did not want that then they might tell Malcolm so. Ok. Welp, in Sarah's hands now [jazz hands]

The Barge is a destructive, dangerous force and the smug moral superiority only makes the wardens more dangerous
The admiral's announcement was EXTREMELY foreboding from the point of view that the Narrenschiff is... You know... A place with good features where people dwell, many of them willingly
There was pretty much nothing saying that "oh I'm happy they'll get to keep living there"
For Sweeney, it was just one more example of the Bargizens/Admiral taking the 'burning shit to the ground and salting the earth is fine, so long as the passengers are back onboard'. There's rarely enough effort to let passengers of other boats continue on with their lives as they had
This is exactly like various particular characters were talking about with getting demoted over a dog
I think that was just Trevor, lol
Although I assume Will would be at risk for that happening too
MAN ... THIS IS SO FUNNY IN HINDSIGHT...
Oh, so this is Walter and Frankie talking about how there are multiple large movie sections in the library. But talk about Admiral's budgeting is funny in the context of the Narrenschiff event raising many questions about how energy should be spent
1. I thought Malcolm would be doing pie post since he gets to decide how much is shared.
2. ...what gave the indication that John saw Justine doing this coming? cause he didn't.
Yes "seemed" is just Walter's perspective due to multiple factors biasing him such as the aforementioned incident
John only told Walter that he was telling Astarion, though he's told Malcolm that he was telling Astarion and Justine. So from Walter's perspective when he's suddenly attacked by Justine whom he hadn't known had a particular relationship to any of them,
And John is like oh no!!! I told Justine not to hurt him!! It's like... "So you told Justine? And knew that was a likely reaction for her to have? Okay"
But yeah it's a paranoid interpretation. And with the empathy experience he had, Walter is a little forced to lean more towards "John is so disingenuous" (Walter's interpretation of the barge being a bad place versus John thinking it is a good place where he is taking care of and living with people who get to grow)
The seeds from that are gonna sprout slooooooowly
...I mean, he told anyone and everyone, even those who didn't know it was Walter
The other part is like "over and over, keeping Walter's name to yourself, protecting him, asking he not be hurt" so Walter is like "...Justine knew???????"
...cause you poisoned Arthur's food and he had no idea if it was a multi person attack.
that was a different bit where she found out
Yeah like obviously John Doe did have this well intentioned reason. But because the memory skips/glosses over that part and so does what he was told, it leaves Walter's imagination whirring
Also it is a bit late here so I might have to drop off. But yeah I'm around in general and if this is something you do want clarified or tweaked before major developments, that could happen
nah its fine. pretty sure Walter would always come away with that impression
Malcolm will be making an announcement imminently as Barge stuff returns to normalish.
I'm thinking of making a post with closed starters, like for Yelena and Sweeney, but then still probably a post pretty soon that's essentially like "I'm Walter Tattersall and yeah Malcolm's post is right". Would this be alright? Not spamming the comm because there's a distinct purpose?
I don't see why not; there's no rule against it!
Ok the post is actually up now so fortunately I can merge such things
I'm losing it at the implication that the second they got home, the characters streamed into the speakeasy like ants to update the burn book
He's been called worse things by better people, Walter. <3
Also Malcolm is telling Jesus that he believes it's safe to keep cooking with Walter.
every single fuckin thing Malcolm says to Jesus is sending me
"it was kind of embellished in his mind, but it wasn't completely made up" I am planning on having Walter explicitly say at some point "so do you think John Doe is right? that this wasn't just not okay but literally jumped a man off the street crazy???" so this is just. so funny. like certainly some people would think "completely made up" is right
Malcolm understands where Walter was coming from.
So dragged through the mud!
Always! If anyone wants the real skinny on him, Will sees him very clearly honestly.
Luckily Wu Xin makes evaluations for himself. And Malcolm's been decent with him.
thanks, man
Being Will's inmate might have influenced his interactions with Malcolm some.
Frankie is starting to have a very, very distant affection for Malcolm as the only significant proof that the Warden Ledger's entire purpose isn't just to facilitate maximally efficient bootlicking
"this one REALLY CARES" "this one is the BEST PERSON I'VE EVER MET" "hurt her and you'll have to deal with ME" ALL OF YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES
But yeah Walter thinks about this also. Walter is out of his bootlicker mask phase for the most part now. And he does think it's kind of sad. Like on the one hand, Malcolm PLEASE stop doing the stuff that made people react this way, it shouldn't be hard
But also is this seriously the shittiest thing a warden has done. Besides Lark's fight with Arthur
In terms of being written about there
But also BLITZØ USING THE LEDGER TO BRAG ABOUT 🔪. GET A LIFE
Is Malcolm really that bad of a counsellor?
by training he's not a counselor, he's a profiler
.... that does not a good counsellor make.
"the stuff that makes people react this way" is a third category of just kinda existing on the barge, like getting very upset when Cain went "I'll teach anyone shooting!... Not you, asshole'. Malcolm does work as a counselor on the barge but he is not trained as a therapist at all.
he knows psych stuff really well so sometimes he's able to give people useful techniques if they Vibe enough that he listens to them, but he has a frequent pitfall of trying to diagnose people without earning their trust, and putting his expertise above listening to them
He is a profiler that helps solve murders, which is "useless" on the barge when victims are revived to share who killed them and tbh when murderers get an itty bitty slap on the wrist
I am so sorry. I am laughing so hard I'm crying. this is terrible.
Take all this with a grain of salt
Ian are you laughing about the pocket sand?
I am. /hangs head in shame
XDDD I shouldn't be s amused by this. It's horrible but yeah. I see it the moment you tell me he's a profiler. Lol.
Now I need actual pocket sand in the game
it's the image of Elijah wood as Walter saying that slowly that's really getting me. I can hear it.
just don't wash your pants from the beach days, Walter. you've got all the sand you need.
Man, this is retroactively part of Walter's inspiration to bring Yelena sand free clothes
Malcolm is a really traumatized profiler who is on the autism spectrum so not only is he a profiler by training and not a therapist, he canonly cannot help profiling people he barely knows to their faces and they do canonly hate it a lot.
But on a ship designed for people to confront their own worst qualities and change them, pls consider how this behaviour is treated as worse than murder by some of the population
Lol, cause half of them are murderers already. Murder is a fine everyday thing.
Aren’t they supposed to be working against that notion tho? No? Well. Maybe that’s where he’s going wrong.
Lol, Now I wonder if he'll try to do that with Wu Xin since this might be the longest he's alone with him where the two of them are both awake and they're not trying to do something action-y (like blanket rescue!)
The whole thread "it's the least I can do. Well not literally least" MALCOLM......
XD Then adding there's some who has done less. LOL.
Malcolm one day you'll wake up and see that instead of cute fun training wheels, the admiral is pro-murder (VERY MUCH JUST WALTER'S PERSPECTIVE but the Narrenschiff event... Christ...)
Sephchama: he is not bitter at ALL about the less that’s been done by some wardens
Also it’s highly likely he will try to do that with Wu Xin.
ancillaries: HE NEVER SAID THE TRAINING WHEELS WERE CUTE.
They have, like, spikes sticking out and they’re dripping blood
magicom: very much looking forward to that interaction
Well, I do hope his tone will be friendlier if he tries to make pointed inferences during meal time. XD
He’s trying to make friends!
So he'll end up making inappropriately awkward observations because he can't stop himself instead?
>.> so u have seen the show
Lol. No, he's just that predictable.
at least he's adorable about it
Malcolm is an occasionally acquired taste
it's true. that's what his mentor tells people tbh.
Trevor that doesn't mean what you think it means!!!!
Zack... Poor Zack walking into all this with pizza
He didn’t mean dramatic as an insult. It was an observation. She was being dramatic instead of getting to the point. Because she could have said what it was and he would have at least gotten the gist of the point, but she only said the vaguest bits and made him guess with no context.
He doesn’t care if she keeps working there, though.
Just, um. Since Walter’s vivisection on Arthur was also a blood offerimg to someone he cared about to show his devotion, maybe don’t tell Malcolm that you thanked her for it.
he won't be mentioning that!
he's working through how to talk to her about it honestly. very "you mugged someone to buy me dinner uggggh" awkward.
SLIGHTLY more complicated than just devotion. which is why he trying to work carefully towards "please don't" without imploding things.
there's a level of harm reduction in Justine respecting his feelings that he does not want to lose. aka why this was a 'mugging' and not a violent torture murder
yeah there is a fine line in encouraging the good behaviors but untangling them from the bad ones and discouraging those.
writing me poetry to make me feel better: good
needing the blood of my enemies for it to be Just Right to your artistic sensibilities: not good
Justine's take is very - If I wanted to hurt him, I would have done MUCH worse. (like she did with Fitz/Sebastian)
she considers this a mercy!
which is why she needs a teachable moment about how it's not okay, no matter how lightly you cut someone under coercion or threat of worse violence.
Pfft, that sounds fake!!!!
He knows. He knows. But your Warden can help.
But he won't pounce right on him. John said he'd make sure it was dealt with so he's going to give him time to.
John's talking to Zack and he'll probably check in with Jedao AND Justine so
Justine "I'm happiest when everyone is talking about me" Florbelle
Also Justine "All attention is good attention" Florbelle
Walter not getting any cannibalism attention and not sure how he actually feels about that. Something wrong with him
John drawing firm distinctions between Walter's and Justine's actions not just in the severity of physical harm but - no she was not trying to impress me!!! She is trying to be NICE!!! that is VERY DIFFERENT - made an impression
that's not really what he said
that's not even what he thinks
he doesn't think she's trying to be nice at all
nor is it what he said to Malcolm so I'm not really sure how it could make an impression?
no... this is what was said earlier (with Walter in the room with Malcolm)
ah before he spoke to her
but even then doing something nice vs being nice is kind of a separate thing. stabbing is never nice
