the Zakalwe on the Barge is actually Elethiomel, the kid who got brought into the family for... reasons (the book doesn't really go into it)

he also doesn't have a last name, really, as far as I can see

though, the interesting thing about it is that he doesn't use Zakalwe's name to hide what he did. Everyone he meets in the books (aside from Livueta at the end) has no idea of his past. It's not a "running from the law so I need a new name" thing.
