Man when I was in high school my old deviantart was nothing but Sonic shit and anime and I had thousands of followers, I never should have deleted that shit lmao
Now I'm lucky if I get likes on my work at all, and its usually from one or two close friends when it does happen

One of the things with Bluesky is there's no algorithm and likes are private. as in the "popular with friends" and "whats hot" only take into consideration reposts
I will say OCs get a lot of attention on Unvale.... but it's mostly just attention via likes and only new characters get shown to others, new art on an already existing character doesn't seem to get shown to people.

I’d say keep posting your stuff, and don’t be shy to retweet things as well. Original stuff can absolutely take off but engagement is key - so if you see art YOU like, don’t hesitate to retweet that as well.

as someone who doesn't do art, I have found people really enjoy stupid shitposts A LOT. they don't even have to get the joke. I share dumb snippets of conversations about what's going on in my rp and a few people get invested.
there's story and personality to it, but it's quick and easy
that might help attract more eyes for the "funny"which will increase general engagement and therefore also eyes on your art
speaking to the 'is it weird to retweet my own stuff' i have people on my bsky who have been more active and they do it with even their texts posts sometimes. it's totally chill and not frowned upon unless you were like. doing it every 4 minutes
