Okay, so I have a weird theory. CEO was separated from a wife who was kind of weird when asked about death threats to husband. Killer had silencer, training, and the exact movements of his target. I think it's possible that she hired him and had the bullets altered to reinforce that it was an angry customer. Just a thought.

You might be right, but the law of probability for me leans towards it going the other way.
That said, people behave weird when someone dies. It's never as tidy as people think it should be. And they were separated? That makes it more complicated

She had the means, for sure. And some hitman only needs to be lucky once with their timing.

Apparently they’d been living apart for years and the MO doesn’t point to a professional hit according to some people who are “expert” in that kind of thing.

Not such a weird theory, but a possibility

The way it was done was amateur in that they did it in such a direct way that getting caught was a strong possibility. To me that points to either strong emotion or lack of judgement. The kind of guy a CEO’s wife would hire for a hit certainly would fall in that second category. And fulfills a primary motive for murder, money.

A mob hit might look like that if the motive was to send a message. Proficiency with a handgun isn’t indicative of anything besides living in the US and having some practice.

Maybe the wife has a new boyfriend that decided to take care of things
