i want to go on a mini rant that's adjacent to this

so, my family have been voting democratic for the last three or four generations. before election day, i was talking to my dad and he was saying "oh, you're mom turned republican" and i was thinking in the back of my mind "you guys aren't liberal, you're centrist" because he claimed that they used to be very liberal

my grandfather, father, uncles, one brother, and one cousin, have worked in or are still working in civil engeering or construction

so my dad said back in october that in the last years, he's lost a lot of work and he was mad at biden. but also... he was also upset with trump because the tarrifs on steel was dragging construction projects. and i'm just amazed how short of an attention span he has

as a disclaimer, he doesn't like trump, but he also thinks the tarrifs are a good idea

which i just then you can't complain about the cost of living going up

and i don't know what is with baby boomers when you try to explain to them that this isn't how it works, they get mad

because i've tried to explain to him so many times that trump and corporate greed are the reason why we had inflation

and he thinks that the tarrifs are going to be good... yeaaaah

so, he will lose MORE work. my parents will find out the hard way when their 401ks start to lose money because of the stock market. and they (sadly) have this expectation they're going to be cared for by us

but also, they're like "everything is so expensive!" me over here like............ "we've been saying this for years"

my parents and other boomer family are freaking out, but the milennial kids have been like "yeah, we've been out here in the trenches, we lived this"

so, i can't speak for my brothers. but uh. they burned the bridge with my older brother, completely, so he can't supoort them. one of them is a teacher and that leaves my baby brother who works in construction.. who doesn't understand budgeting... and me

and i've given hints to them both that, no, i will not take care of them. which is an awful thing to say, but both of them have been abusive to us growing up. iv'e dealt with the brunt of my mother's abuse... but also, i was establishing my career in 2008 when the market crash happened

so i finanically cannot help much

and i don't hate my parents, but god damn, it's gonna be sad to watch them realize how they're going to get burned by this shit

and i know i'm not the only milennial with boomer parents that are in this situation

my dad needs to think of retirement and an exixt from the workforce, like. now

but he's too stubborn

and my baby brother needs to clamp down. he earns more than us (but not as much as my older brother) since he has a supervisor/managment role in construction, so he ideally makes enough money to buy property, but he won't....

i mean, i geat it? but also, bro... you should take advantage of that

idk idk.... shit sucks but then again, i've been anticipating this for a while

sadly. thankfully. my grandmother won't be in trouble. my grandfather was a WWII vet, so he set her up well for when he passed away

she won't be here to suffer through this

and I work for a healthcare company, so I'm not leaving that company any time soon

Will you be happy if you wrong? If the economy booms and Trump delivers big for us all?
