a bit over ten years ago, a young girl in a remote mountain village (let's keep rina for the name) bore witness to a falling star

...that kept on falling

and falling

until it smacked her RIGHT in the face

that falling star was the last of velga's generals: a legendary, fierce dragon. or what was left of one, at least

in a last-ditch effort, it tried to shove its soul into the nearest available vessel to survive the sacrificial attack of elika's final party member

but the problem is, when you're working with a little kid, there's... not a lot of room for something as big as a dragon soul

so it squeezed and compressed and cut away at itself until there was pretty much nothing left of the original shape

rina grew up with absolutely ZERO clue about what happened to her except for her memories of getting hit by a falling star and the growing presence of an "imaginary friend" who was mostly confused about their own existence

until

well

this kinda threw a wrench in her life plans because she had been planning on joining the clergy at that point

becoming an Adventure Log Cleric specifically

and the sudden realization that her "imaginary friend" that never went away with age was really something magical threw her whole life out of whack

this happened around the time when the monster curse arose once again, and frighteningly, began tugging at the back of her mind

at which point the dragon soul, now a wholly new identity, grasped a vague idea of what, exactly, it was, and what it CAME from in the first place

and realized that, owing to her "past" (such as it was) and her new lease on life, she needed to go out into the world to figure out what's going on

(rooting out the curse on rina in the process, since for some reason it affects her instead)

SO

i'd be playing rina while cobbles plays the ex-dragon

rina is a very sweet and kind young woman who barely has any capacity for violence most of the time

ALL support and sparkles, nervous and shy but with a hidden core of steel

which makes the way the curse urges her to Do Violence so scary to her- she has personal investment in this too

and as a kind young woman who was planning on spending her days as a Save Point Priest, she naturally just

wants to use the powers she and her partner have been given to save people too

i'll let cobalt detail their half of the equation since that's their character

i think the best way to do this mechanically would be to give certain techniques a "switch" limit- you have to be in mode a to use one or mode b to use another, and switching is a support action

notably, rina has the malevolent entity flaw, which is specifically the curse finally getting enough influence to make her snap

and her other half is actually the one who gets her back to her senses

I dig the idea of the malevolent entity curse being orthogonal to the two personalities

Rina goes berserk and Dragobalt is like "okay geez time to shake her out of it"

that's exactly it

the one thing I might say for story construction sake is that all or most of the dragon's memories were lost in The Incident

yeah that's also the implication

so that they can't just, dump all the lore exposition about the Dark Lord's secrets day 1

it takes YEARS for her to figure out that's where she even came from in the first place

functionally speaking an entirely new person

misc. notes: rina keeps her eyes closed most of the time to hide her dragon pupils and wears a Big Priest Hat for similar reasons
