They'd say yes. They care about him, but they don't know how to express it and they feel like it isn't as strong as they want it to be. They also don't think they can tell how strong it is.
This is when they'd start running into Shaw's problem of feeling like they might not have the right to use the same words for emotions that other people do
They're still kind of wrapping their head around the idea of their emotions being the same emotions everyone else has and figuring out what things feel like to them. They've definitely got empathy and connection, though.
