[ttrpgs] GOD I am just very impressed with the Arkham Horror... everything, especially the new system/corebook
latest #46
starting with addressing THIS out of the gate
and their attempt to use HPL's spinning body as a power source illustrated here: https://images.plurk.com/11Jk1Kep5cCqNYunCQ5LO8.png

oh, that's excellent
https://images.plurk.com/7lLzAfIqvGArO16ajQF6xe.png "we blatantly don't care about historical accuracy because we'd rather EVERYONE CAN HAVE A GOOD TIME"
"Representation in media-even among closed groups of players-is extremely important" is a phrase I love.
It's so good
https://images.plurk.com/1ezUgbGT3vU0BNhVnNCCfY.jpg this mechanic is great because it keeps people from going 'oh my character can't do that well, he'll just sit in a corner' and OTHER people from going 'my character does 15 things in the span of 10 minutes in this room' while everyone else is waiting
https://images.plurk.com/7CAvKGHYP1c5oCNXHf5xsX.jpg and I really like this compromise/means of rewarding RP without heavily penalizing people who want to play those types of characters without the real life skills
and like so many of the characters are just NEAT
Nammah!

Wow.
back to the core book, I love how it leans into the Arkham Pulp better than the CoC Pulp does
because like, when you make a CoC character, you make a functional adult who has to deal with the mythos
but when you're making an AHRPG character, you're assuming they're a functional adult and building out the fun cool shit like character classes and such
and KNACKS and AGH
https://images.plurk.com/o1wUtg9iHllyRafybLBmZ.png also this is such a CLEAN and functional character sheet
I see how they pulled it from the various games and it's a very game-like system
in a GOOD way?
where characters don't get 5e levels of complicated to the point where you're superheroes but you're still rocking some cool little features
I love how they converted the system of success and failure from Arkham and Eldrich (5/6 is a success) to a stat system that's so simple with the dice pool system
better example of the sheet
like as someone who NERDS OUT about various systems and worlds and stuff
I am GENUINELY impressed with the book, with a lot of the systems, and how playable this feels
oh man...it's been about 2 years since my last campaign finished, makes me want to play again. I'm still a newb I think but we went through kingmaker and that was fun.
I very much approve of using hpls corpse as a turbine
BBitsaboi: there's the card game, there's a few board games, and there's the new RPG book I am curious which you mean!
we were playing through on fantasy grounds as our platform, it was heavily modified 5e. I am unsure exactly what our dm was using. we don't talk much any more cause my uncle kind of blew up our dnd group with a break down unfortunately xD
oof I'm sorry
I might be up for trying to do a short AH thing
just to try this out
it is what it is. I was invited to play like 6 years ago, they were all friends of my dad and my uncle since high school so I think it was years in the making for a break unfortunately. he just decided he wanted to tell all his friends why he hated them in chat and then quit. it was. awkward.
Agatha Crane aka Gertrude Robinson
I want to play if you do please
TheHats: she's also in Eldritch Horror which we play a lot and she actually basically saved the game by herself last session
We were like, 5 rounds from the end, only 1/3 through our tasks, she pulls a 'For the Greater Good' task out, sacrifices herself to do our 2nd task, and our third was completed in the next round through a complete happenstance ambush. it was incredibly epic
ALSO as soon as I figure out a good means to play the game digitally, I am 100% down for that
