I think that .com is so common I would stick with it for awhile. I will let others blaze the trail!
.com is the most prevalently used. GoDaddy is selling .me domains
NetSol has just opened up .pro & I was curious as to responses (am going to write a blog post - and I'm working for NetSol)

for example - we will probably see .apple but I don't think I can afford .bensen
up to the browsers @ this time: .com is default. until that changes, best to find a .com. perhaps Google Chrome solve?
