are you looking to match a strong reader with a weaker reader?

I saw an activity where kids organized themselves from strongest to weakest (it was on preparation for a social studies test).

Strong kids on one end, weaker lined themselves up at the other end and then they wrapped into a U shape so strongest opposite weakest

I prefer closer together in ability, rather than strongest with weakest.

But I teach 4th grade.
I was planning to have similar ability levels together...
I'm going to have them do short daily assignments and then a short presentation at the end...I'm leaving that open - just asking for
a visual element, an oral element, and a written element that discusses an essential how or why question related to the book as well as
answer my own essential question "How did reading with a partner enhance my appreciation for and/or understanding of the book?"
