in Singapore and all non-china countries, we sometimes don't follow the proper chinese spelling, aka what we call "han yu pin yin". only in

1984 did the sg govt encourage ppl to use "han yu pin yin" spellign for chinese names, but tht was soon abandoned... haha.

in singapore, ppl usually follow the spelling of how it is pronounced in their chinese dialect group.
