Mindmeister does allow public maps that anyone can edit - "WikiMaps" they call them.

mindmaps are a distillation of information, and as such most folk find them an end rather than a start. they're a formidable thing to digest

Really? I find them a start-to-middle rather than an end. Oh well, I am no academic.

academics got a predisposition to using them as an end... from my experience.. particularly those that use the word "pedagogy" with impunity

for me they're distillation phase stuff.. but then again we both use digital mindmaps which are more fluid
