how do you feel plurk measures up to Twitter? (For the sake of discussion, let's exclude the scaling issues Twitter is having.)

You're lucky you said to exclude the issues. Not a day goes by when Twitter doesn't have a down moment.

I'm aware of that, but I feel that the scaling issues are obvious. I'm looking at feature to feature, service to service analysis.

I really enjoy the interface of Plurk over all. While the scroll left/right is a bit annoying, it gives it more of a community feel.

as though plurk relies more on a gimmick, though.

agrees as well. Searching for friends is very difficult. I just posted a blog entry about Plurk vs. Twitter.

she likes plurk as a once daily stop, but not a constantly monitored website like Twitter.

how can you limit yourself to once daily with Plurk? I've been trying to write a blog post for 9 hours now.

I don't find it very difficult. I don't really know anyone Plurk and I find the left to right timeline to be cumbersome.

I check a few replies and leave. With Twitter, I have Twhirl on constantly. I can be downstairs and hear the reply ding and come a-runnin!

it's the layout that I don't like, and that seems fundamental to Plurk. Plus, it seems more "chat-roomy" to me than Twitter.

And I don't like the karma at all--emphasis of "being popular" instead of having access to use as you will just b/c you are a user.

I definitely dislike the karma thing. It makes me feel as though the creators were worried people would leave.
