Error 500 is pretty much the 'catch-all' error. Hard to say what's wrong. Most likely a service stopped working.

Is there any one else that can maybe restart the server?

I'd recommend getting a managed hosting service if your site is critical...

nachik: I agree. And if you are a very hands on person, a cloud/virtual hosting solution would also be a good option.

yep, I use a VPS myself... plus a basic managed shared LAMP hosting too. It's cheap nowadays, but I don't know what's the norm for IIS hosts

Mine's also LAMP, but I think it's pretty much the same for IIS, only that you also get a VNC like tool for accessing the GUI of the server.
