I don't ever really feel I capture my avatar's face right and I hate all the jagged edges on her body.

jaggies can be fixed by using anti-aliasing. You can enable it through your video card or SL, or both. I can't walk you through it unless

I know which video card you have and which viewer you use.

the avatar's eyes are easily dealt with by using a focus block. Basically you make a small block, then texture it with an alpha so it's

totally clear, focus your av's eyes on it and move the block where you want her to look, then snap away

you'll learn a lot through trial and error, just like the rest of us do. Don't get discouraged, and don't be afraid to ask for help!
