just put it this way. why do we have to answer u're welcome when someone says thank u? or y do we have to answer hello when someone says hi?

those are not questions but to show decency and courtesy, we tend to answer them in return.

as a matter of fact, we are not obliged to reply in return to those phrases but since to response has been a tradition, we do that act.
