enjoy
but electric cars can't be the future, if not fitted with a hydrogen fuel cell
so I hope there'll soon be a race car based on that
I'm sure Honda are working on it, the Clarity already is pretty great
i'd have to disagree
the new tesla S will get 300 miles / charge
and if everyone can charge their own plugin car with PV panels on their roof
we just cut out a good 1/3 of our domestic oil consumption
I disagree on the long run, as it's not practicable for most people, hydrogen fuel cells seem much more useful...and in fact manufacturers..
seem to develop more into that direction
btw...
ultimately they're both steps in the right direction
the problem being, fuel cell cars require fueling stations
while electric cars can be charged at home
in either case, ideally, the energy that goes into charging up either car (either producing the hydrogen or the electron push)
... is coming from renewable sources (wind, solar, geo-t)
and right now, hydrogen is produced in industrial complexes, powered primarily by fossil fuel sources
while a plugin car could be powered 100% by a small rooftop solar system at your house
what i *do* like is the potential for solar powered hydrolysis to produce fuel for h-cars
but in practice most people don't have a house, but live in flats in cities..that's a problem in practice concerning personal autonomy
that's a good point j, though the flip side is that many city-dwellers don't have cars
for those that do... who knows? maybe charging stations at office parking lots
the new Tesla can charge in 45 min
that's still not good enough, you need it to recharge as quick as you'd refuel a car
I stick with James Maywhen he says that we can't make a step back, we need an electric car that matches what we have today, and the...
...result should be hydrogen fuel cells
the german manufacturers have had good prototypes for years now...especially BMW and Mercedes should be able to compete with Honda
the first being able to produce a model with modern day car performance and a range of at least 500 miles will be incredibly rich
I just don't think everyone producing his/her own electricity autonomously can work in reality
