Hmmm not sure how I feel about this. It's not important to me in general what gender I am in a computer game.

Buuut in the new Dead Island game it seems the best characters are the two chicks.

I fallow some people on youtube who do the walkthroughs and so far all of them have chosen the women.

This issue is less how awesome the characters are, and more the fact that half the world population is not represented because the game

designers wanted a few more shirts for the other half.

That seems deeply misguided to me.

And, as a gamer, I resent not being able to choose the gender I want to play.

It is not any different than the media having only white people on their shows, or having women only playing housewives.

games are media too, and have the same kind of impact on society.

I think, for me, it's partially because game playing is storytelling. And my storytelling characters are always female

I had a friend in an MMO who played female characters for the same reason.
