I'm sorta hoping he skipped town, but I know that's not what happened.
Uh oh... D: Hope he's alright.
Yeah, I'm gonna guess not. He's like, half-blind. And he's been gone five hours.
...Really shouldn't have been driving.
... how on earth does he have a car if he's half blind? I don't think anyone would be allowed for definite over here. :x
Yeeeah, the DMV over here is just, really full of fail.
You can get a license and keep it so easy.
They make old people take the test pretty often, but apparently it's easy enough for a half-blind guy to pass.
My boyfriend's grandma stopped driving. They passed her, but SHE decided she couldn't see well enough to drive, so she stopped.
And my grandma? LOL still on the road, even though she's shaky, vision-impaired, reflex-impaired, and drunk nearly 100% of the time.
Yeah me too. I'm kind of harsh about the driving, but I still don't want the guy hurt.
He's kind of crotchety and old, but he was never a jerk to me. So here's hoping he's ok.
Awww, poor dude.
I think over here. You passed your test and you get a license until you're 60 or 70... then you have to retake. Not sure how often, though.
Ah. You have to renew your license every like, 4 or 8 years here. If you got tickets, you have to come in and take the written test.
I had to do that, it was pathetically easy.
And I'm not totally sure, but I think it's only people over 80 who HAVE to take the test again, even if they have a good driving record?
I don't know when the vision tests and shit come into play.
Over here, if you get six points on your license within your first two years of driving, you have to resit your whole test.
You get points for stuff like speeding or Drink-Driving.
And I think if you get 12 points, instant ban. For... somewhere between six months and two years. I can't remember.
Then you'll have to retake your test.
But only thing we have to do is renew your photo every ten years
WE GET POINTS HERE TOO. Hitting a pedestrian I THINK is 6 points. /has never taken the written test
XDDD Hitting a guy on a bike is ten. Stroller with a baby is like, 100.
Most offences can be given up to ten points. Things like speeding, talking on to phone is 3 - 6 points.
Death by dangerous driving is up to 10 points and it'll stay on your lisence for 11 years.
...I think we actually do have points, though.
/again, never took the written test
Oh, I don't know if IL does
Wait, you have a license and you didn't have to take the written?
NO. I do not have a license.
I was like, is that even possible?
Yeah. I don't WANT to get my license. My mom was going to make me take the written test so I could have an ID, but then she caved
and just got us state IDs instead.
Gotcha. Nothing wrong with a state ID. I had one of those until I got my license, which wasn't til age 18.
I guess I gotta ask though, any reason why you don't wanna drive?
...I'm a big chicken. The thought of being in control of a 2000+ lb vehicle scares the SHIT out of me.
Plus, I can't control other drivers and that freaks me out even more.
Ha, yeah, that's exactly why it took me two years to finally get mine. Plus everyone yelled at me when I was behind the wheel. XD
I can totally understand that. I'm a wary driver myself. But when I learned how to drive, my teacher told me:
'Treat everyone else on the road like they're an idiot and you can't go wrong.'
... wow, and I thought I took a long time to learn :x
It's not that I couldn't. I just scared myself, and nobody with patience was around to teach me. shrug
I was a slow learner, I was scared of everything. :x
Thankfully I had my grandfather to teach me. I couldn't learn with my Mother or we'd just shout at one another :x
Well, my grandfather long with an instructor too.
Lol. I had this driving school teacher, since my dad had like no time and my mom had no license. He was... awful.
I ended up failing my test first time round because of nerves. I hit to pavement like... 10 minutes in and the guy knew I was upset and knew
Chain-smoking the whole time, made me drive him to go get cigarettes, SUPER MISOGYNISTIC AND RACIST
I'd failed but make me continue it.
but he made me continue it*
I pretty much cried the rest of the way through but he never once said: "Okay, you're getting worked up and upset, let's go back."
That examiner was a dick. I got home, cried lots and napped. I felt so bad for failing. :x
But the second time, OMG THE EXAMINER WAS AMAZING. He chatted to me the whole time and joked and stuff and I felt to much better. ;3
Yay!
Overall, it took me about 8 months to learn. The written exam was SO EASY for me. I answered those questions like a BOSS.
