I tried resetting the thing and that doesn't work either. Might have to go get a new one. About time I stepped up to N and gigabit .
Interesting, what are your reasons for airport extreme.
3rd'd….I love my Airport Extreme. It's worked flawlessly for me and it's simple to set up.
It's pricey compared to some others….but it's worth it.
If you have Mac a notebook you might as well spring for a Time Capsule. It's the AirPort Extreme with a hard drive for wireless...
It cuts through interference better than any others I've used, it creates multiple simultaneous and linked types (5.8 and 2.4 N) which is
actually very important if you want to maximize throughput but still use devices without 5.8 capabilities. It's unbelievably simple to
Extend the network with Expresses that can also serve as AirPlay devices to which you just attach speakers.
And if you have iCloud, you can log the router into iCloud so you can get back to your network over the Internets. (Back to my Mac).
There's also an AirPort Utility App for the iPhone.
The other plus side is that the Airport Extreme/TC does Bonjour management. It keeps tabs on what bonjour services your connected devices...
...offer. For instance, my iTunes library is on our MBP. When it's awake the Apple TV finds it and is able to access the library. If the...
...MBP is sleeping, the ATV can't find it. If I had an APX/TC, it would "remember" that my MBP has that library and when the ATV starts...
...hunting for libraries, the APX/TC can say "Oh! The MBP has that! Wake the fuck up, MBP!" and send a WWOL packet to wake it up so it...
...can serve that library to the ATV.
Thanks for doubling the expense!
I actually learned something from the girl with the big jugs in the Apple Dept at Microcenter today...
... Apparently you can just get an Airport Extreme (which does the Bonjour stuff) and plug a USB hard drive into it for the wireless...
...but I stress APPARENTLY... I'm still researching it.
Yeah that's what the setup claims. I will say it was the easiest router to setup. Not that I needed easy but just proves apple
Really gets how to make things as simple as they possibly can be. I think my parents could have even set one up on their own.
So you got the Extreme, then?
theBigD: I'd gone through a D-Link and a Linksys router prior to my Extreme and after setting it up…it was, "that's it?"
D-Link sucks donkey balls. I will never ever buy another one of their products.
I had the DIR-655. Pile of shit.
My linksys WRT54G was about 6 years old . It was rock solid ... Until returning from FL.
Nice. If you try hooking a USB HDD to it for Time Machine purposes, let me know how it goes.
