I almost thougth firefly... one of those wandered into the house once, and Rudy stalked it.

I had no idea what it was until it blinked.

thought, even.

Allegedly a cat, yes. We called him a proto-cat.

He was too clumsy and simple-minded and clueless to be a modern cat, you see.

None on hand, alas. He's been dead for some time...

Yes. Very food-oriented, for one thing... though his wires were crossed when it came to what he ought to eat.

He loved greens, for one thing. If you left the ingredients for a BLT unattended, he would steal the lettuce first.

He was really dim, though, and the further back you got the worse the wiring was...

So while he had a vague sense he was supposed to wash his tail, he'd often stare at it like it was prey and had to pin it to wash it.

And at times, he'd attack his tail. Once, he bit it hard, cried out, stared at it in disbelief, and bit it again harder for biting him.
