just fixed a bunch of broken soundcloud links on my music tumblr... alas... the woes of blogging semi-legal content.

resorted to mp3 searching for several... but haven't hosted any myself yet.

I try to link to the label's soundcloud when possible.... but those are often temporary listings. :-(

If I keep going with that i'm gonna need a script to check if the music urls are working eventually. The tumblr UI makes it arduous.

i was making tapes on 8tracks too... but the idea of fixing both seems like a nightmare... might phase those out.

Do you think it's going to be a fatal flaw for those sites?

dumb question maybe- do bloggers never pay rights to post music? I"ve wanted to do a music blog for years but the legal holds me back

I know the official sites like CBCMusic do pay right-- just talked to a producer abotu it yesterday.

I think some music bloggers do pay rights, or at minimum only publish playable tracks that are the "promo" tracks from the labels.

But this tends to only be the music blogs that are inherently a business an for profit in some sense of the word.

although I don't have a really good feel for it at this stage.

tumblr does a really good job of letting you source the tracks from 3rd parties, or when you do upload, they are not downloadable.

I hope that as long as you restrict yourself to 1 track or so per album/artist, and honor DMCA requests etc...

the world needs to re-think copyright. I dunno what the right answer is, but I don't think we have it, right now.

most labels would ignore you and decide you are "doing good" rather than "evil. but who knows.

there'll be another ASCAP/BMI-like split. :-)
