so far have tested the debian squeeze raspberry distro, and the rasb-xmbc variant.

35$ xmbc box is kinda fun, though you'd want to do USB or HDMI audio... the analog audio circuitry is pretty weak.

PoE would be fun for hackers... but their target audience really has no need/use for that.

i'm trying to get my USB DAC workin on the rasbmc build right now. no luck yet.

looks forward to a day when enough of the legwork for such things has been figured out that one can just plug things in and have them work…

it seems to be a recent issue with xmbc actually... not pi related. will have to try an older xmbc version to see.

there's also the option of a pico projector, though last I saw the HDMI model was still about 9 or 10x the cost of the pi. :-/

yeah it's hard to justify when the pi is so cheap. I've seen tiny composite monitors on the cheap... but I want more than NTSC.

well, the ShowWX+ is WVGA (848 x 480)... so.... comparable to traditional NTSC, but...

there's a cheaper model, which I have, but it doesn't do HDMI input. And yes, it's weak… but, fun. And nice'n bright at short distances.

I think the infinite focus is the main selling point of the laser-pico setup.
