I don't know. I don't think we should have.
Well responding to this seems like a horrible idea, but I'll bite enough to say 'no' at least. :s
Medlock; I've always been interested in your ideas on the subject, althopugh you're more hard line than me.
Stantler; Apart from the obvious curiosity - why do you say that?
I am very old-fashioned, that's all. A woman's place is in the home (kitchen) and while I respect that some modern females put their careers
first in life, I cannot count them as proper women because they do not behave as such.
What truely defines a woman? What truely defines a man?
I was once told by a friend when I asked the question, why is History filled with mens doings?
He told me that society and experience rewards the efforts of those who 'do' both in and outside of the tribal unit.
Men traditionally have done things outside - making discoveries, fighting wars and claiming terratory - and women have done things inside -
such as social regulation and maintaining status quo.
He explained that its not that we value one over the other, just that the inner tribal discoveries and 'doings' were done and then redone so
often that they stopped being discoveries. Men continued to 'do' new things outside the tribal unit.
I'm not sure I agree entirely, although it makes sence from a biological point of view.
Another thing I disscussed with - addmitedly a very jaded friend - was greed.
He told me that all expansion is orchistrated by female greed - the need to prove status.
Another thing that I find peculiarly interesting is the difference in fears between the sexes.
Men fear property damage or theft as it deminishes their status and therefore attrativness to females.
Women fear physical assault as it, again, diminishes their desireability to men.
Men are four times more likely to get attacked.
Women are (I've no idea of the figure) likely to get burgled.
Yeah. I don't really think about it in those terms. I was born into a society where the traditional role for a woman is one of support.
Therefore, this is what I aspire to. I can't say I care at all about the in depth explanations nor ramifications of my point of view.
And thats what I like about you.
Well, I'm just going to add my 'no' here...
In this country, of the 650 MPs in Parliament, only 145 are women. That's not equal. Nor is the fact that only about 20% of senior...
management positions across the world are taken on by women.
Slightly less easy to quantify, but take a look at the amount of films, books, and other media aimed predominantly at men.
Equality is a difficult issue at the moment because there have been such monumental changes made in the modern world.
But that doesn't mean there's not a deep, cultural skew towards (a certain kind of) male.
I mean, I'm no expert, and I certainly don't resent men who have inherited this kind of privilege, but I am a feminist and I do think it...
Well, in ways like this. :3 By discussing it and finding ways in which we can change our behaviour to make the world nicer for everyone.
It makes a huge difference just to think about why we behave in the way we do. I think so anyway. ^^o
What do you mean by a certain type of male?
Did you know that the majority of school drop outs are male and yet money has been spent on providing for girls.
More money is spent on womens centers to provide for their care and yet there are no male centers.
Working mens clubs are being systematically dismantled.
Little boys are being turned into little girls in some schools - it didnt work.
And the equality litigation, for example, on sports teams, in practice becomes a quota system.
Okay, I'm not sure what you mean by those first two things and I really don't understand the last... But just Google...
men's domestic abuse charities and you'll find that there are support centres. If that's what you meant.
The kind of man I was talking about is heterosexual, cisgendered and middle/upper class.
Cis gendered is a term I'm aware of but I don't know its meaning. Is it an abreviasion?
But it is interesting that you bring up some of these issues - they show that inequality creates stereotypes that harm all genders.
My own interest stems from a basic want of fairness.
Oh, it means they have a gender identity that corresponds with the body they were born with, basically.
Unfortunately, I have to say (and I totally appretiate that you may want to knock out some of my teeth after this) I have no basis for
fairness in connection with femanism.
Really? C I S. Well the s I get is sexuality but what about the rest?
But feminism is fairness! The aim of feminism is (or at least should be) to allow equal opportunities regardless of gender.
By exclusively making laws for the detriment of one gender - each femanism law, litigation or practice involves quotarising or excluding men
Fairness is not equal treatment.
Ah, Latin, you're always there for me.
An example of equal treatment that is horrifically unfair; each person must place ten rocks in the basket that sits on top of the hill
The rocks are at the bottom.
Nine people are able to do this fine as they pick up the rock and place it in the basket.
The tenth person has no legs and no support system by which to climb the hill.
Oh, quotas and litigation are tricky. I don't exactly agree with them. I'm talking about changing behaviour so that we don't need them.

Just as an aside, I'm aware that I can get quiet exitable in a debate and I'd be horrified if you thought I was getting pushy or aggressive.
I'm just interested in a bit of round the houses debate - not trying to pick a fight or soap box about my views.
Yes, I suppose you'd call it male entitlement. And, no, I don't mind you being excitable! I enjoy the debate. I'm not really clever enough..
But I do enjoy trying. :3
But I do enjoy trying. :3
And trying is the best part.
Sorry my plurks seem to be posting twice, by the way. D:
Kinda like a rap battle but way more studious.
My responce to male entitlement - as I understand it - is to adivise that it is simpley the differences between male and female behaviour
I hear a lot of the time that men think with their bits and, well, its not exactly true, but we certainly think differently to women.
Its one of the reasons you get so few women in active military units - monofocus and aggression are two of the key points in our brains.
I cant really comment on the biological nature of womens thoughts though, so maybe you could?
